Also can you throw in a little about what you dislike about your current tow rig? Would like to swap in a 6-speed manual and ditch the automatic.

Right now I have a 02 GMC Sierra 2500 HD CC SB 6.0. I love this truck. It's gettin up there in miles but it's paid off. I am a die hard GM fan but teh Duramax/Allisons are a little out of my budget to remain out of payments. What ever I get will be my DD so I want to stay with an AT.

Also can you throw in a little about what you dislike about your current tow rig?

Or should I rebuild my junk and put a Magnacharger on it?

Lets keep teh Camels out of this...... Unless you got pics of course. :redneck:
I had GM stuff before and LOVED it!! I used a 2000 2wd 5.3L first, then a 2001 4wd 2500HD Sierra with the 6.0L, then the 2001 Dodge 4wd diesel, and now the 2006 4wd Mega cab diesel dually. I converted after going through a motor on the Sierra and borrowing the '01 Dodge from a friend that was selling it.....I was hooked on the way the diesel towed compared to the gas motors. Also I knew if I was going to have a diesel it could not have an automatic. When your making power and at a high GCVW on long hauls it just would kill you in break downs and maint. Thats the ONLY thing I really think you need in a tow rig with power...When I decided I needed a bigger truck I wanted a 2wd, I went looking at the Duramaxs, and the Megacabs. I ended up with the 4wd Mega cab as that was all I could find at the time. I'm glad I got it living around here I would have HATED not having the 4wd. Even though it lowers the tow rating IMO in this reigon without it your in trouble....I miss my GM trucks, in all honesty I liked the ride and interiors. Lots of people don't but I find myself missing alot of features they had. i just felt like I fit better in the trucks. Might just be that brand loyalty coming through....

What you got:2006 Dodge Mega cab dually
What trans? 6-speed manual
4x4? Hell yea
Ever really needed 4x4? Yup
Carry a camper? not so much
How much total towing weight? I would say about 10-20K
Speed up Snoqualmie or White pass loaded? While keeping the EGTs in check, around 70-75.
Avg empty fuel economy empty? Loaded? Empty- 16 -20, depending on my right foot. Loaded, 8-12
Also can you throw in a little about what you dislike about your current tow rig? I like the short bed but sometimes I would like a full 8 feet, not all the time just SOME of the time, and auto would be nice for driving everyday also...

Sounds you have taken the same approach as I have, but your a couple of rigs ahead of me, my last TR was a 99 Sierra ½ ton with a 5.3 and it towed pretty damn good. My current rig tows awesome but I can tell it's getting tired. BTW your new dually looks sick and I love the license plate.

I'd prefer a 6 speed for towing and throwin the power down but I will be using my next rig as a DD like i do now. Commuting with a manual just isn't fun. Especially when your trying to text, shave and catch the stock market updates all at the same time. NOT. If I could get a deal on a 6 spped 4x4 it would be hard to pass up.

Warjeeper, when and if Toyota comes out with a diesel, it'll prolly be bad as hell and I would be drooling all over it with a semi......would be waaaaaaaaay out of my price range.

Goin to look at a 02 CTD QC LB auto this afternoon.

BTW thanks for all the responses, great info. keep em comin.

I'd like to see that, because there's no such thing.

They didn't make a megacab in '02. They did however make a quadcab.

Oooooooops, busted for being a tard. :looser: It was a quad cab and it is prolly gonna be in my driveway tomorrow.
