K-I couldn't pass this up. I bought a 74 J-20 tonite, paid the guy twice what he was askin'. It's ugly but I started it for the first time in 2 or 3 years and drove it home. It's got Dana 60's front and rear with 4" springs and a 3" body lift sittin on 36's. Spotless caddy 500, freshly rebuilt th400, dump bed. This was originally a quadratrac truck with a 360 but now has a regular transfer case and locking hubs. The tranny is out of an old commando with a buick 350--same bolt pattern as the caddy motor--but I don't know what the transfer case is yet. Anyone got any idea about how much to get a front driveshaft made for this thing? Got any idea of a good place to get parts for this thing? pro's con's jeep trivia? I've never had one before.

Probably a Dana 20 t-case. A new front driveline will be around $200. Are you sure it is a Dana 60 front?

Yeah pretty sure... I 'm not sure how to tell really, Guy I bought it from was really nice. He got the truck together, test drove it, woke up the next day and had a stroke. He's young too probly late 30's-early 40's. He had the diffs professionally done -4:56's with clutch type posi front and rear--But built the rest himself. Was a machinest before and had all kinds of neat stuff he had built/designed around his place(backhoes and sawmills and stuff) I thing he got the transfer case from something else still, said he thought it was alot bigger than any others he'd seen.

Cool man thanks! Guy said that's what he turned the 360 into before goin with the caddy. I couldnt pass it up, now I'm thinkin fix it's issues and use it for a tow rig for my sami.

The initial after break in start on bringing FiFo's J-20 back to life after the motor rebuild. Headers to straight pipes = win.

Must have been cheap and unclestripey is a cool dude who saw a guy who probably needed cash after the stroke.

Win win for both parties. High five Stripey !

It's a Jeep thing.

Buy High, sell low.

I brought the guy Some firewood for hearts and hammers last year and saw the jeep in the yard covered in goo. Asked his wife who works at my bank about it a few times and the other day she asked for my #. Dude calls me and tells me about the truck and after about 45 min. says, " I'm not giving it away, I want $100." I went over with a battery and fuel and it fired immediately and ran beautifully. If I had $1000 I would have given it to him, but this was a tight week so I gave him two bills. His smile was worth the extra bill. I'm fairly sure they're both 60's, they're freaking huge! The 500 inch cad mill is spotless with brand new dual exhaust, th400 just rebuilt. It's rusty at the botom of the doors but he sent me away with two sets of straight rust-free doors. It's sittin on 35-12.50 BFG's with decent tread. I also told him to call me if he needed anything at all, poor guy's got a wife and young boy and is half paralyzed, I'm 6'4'' and 250 #'s and he gave me a stellar deal. I'll try to post up some pics tonite.

Damn that's a score. I would have given a lot more than $200 but if the guy was happy with that, then you both scored!

The guy was askin $100, I gave him everything I had on me, and still drove it away feelin like I did him wrong...his wife said he had a ball hangin out and talkin trucks and to come by anytime to B.S. Yesterday I drove it to work and had to get towed home by triple A--Power wire to the electronic ignition dropped onto the exhaust manifold and shorted the system...Two minutes of rerouting and and hour on the charger and she's good as new!

He's probably happy it went to the right person, and not having it around to remind him of the way things used to be.
