Just wanting to know how many of you buggy guys have full width axles. And the pros and cons to using them. i see a lot of axles cut down and clocking the knuckles . is that so you fit better threw the trees? thanks for the info.

You have alot to learn there grasshopper,lol.....

The width thing--usually a personal deal. And of course backspacing comes into play.

For example some guys will run a 65" diff with 4" backspaced wheels. In my case I run a 62" diff with 2" backspaced wheels. As for cut/turn thats to achieve proper caster...

i understand about caster and such. i have a set of ford dana 60s and was looking at building a buggy. I was wondering if i should look in to cutting them down or just run with them.

You have to consider a lot of factors...frame width, tire size, turning, shock placement,t-case ect.....

Ask your self ....Will the tires hit the frame at full turn? ... How big of tire?... If I get the fancy cut 300m or 1550 steering joint will my 40's hit the frame? That motor I bought sure is wide, if I narrow the axles the tire are sure to hit. Damn that Stak 3 speedTcase is wide......hmmm narrow them? Dammit, now the tire hit the rear cage at only 1/2 flex

Make your decisions carefully......... or narrow it now, then buy spacers later

a lot of though goes into building a buggy like everyone has stated so far. decide on your drivetrain, suspension, engine, tires steering, etc... how wide do you want it, a tight two seater, single seater, or two seater with plenty of room. if you're thinking of building a buggy you should know exactly what you'd like to build because you've wheeled with different set ups and figured out what your ideal rig would be so you wouldn't even be asking about what width axles to run in it. not trying to be negative just stating the facts.

No nothing negative about it. I have had these dana 60s (i think the rear is a 70) for some time now and was tossing around the idea of what to do with them. i kinda like the diy 321 buggy kit from essentially offroad. Ok so hears what they say the buggy is designed for.
hears the web page so you all can see.

$2295 for a few pieces of tube not welded and no lower frame is a absolute rip off.

Talk to S&N Fab 360-435-9040 and ask them how much buggy they can give you for $2295.

Get a chassis from S/N. In the long run you will be happier. Trust me on this.

If you dont mind waiting for months and months for your chassis this is what I would do also:redneck:

Oh wait, This is what I'm doing and still waiting!:fawkdancesmiley:

Full width axles and alot of backspacing will work. Last buggy I owned had a full width 60 under the front with stock dodge(06) aluminum wheels, with 40 Creepys, was measured at 78 outside of tire. With drive flanges hub stuck out a little , but IMO was not an issue. Key with running this setup is having the lower links triangulated so full turn is achieved. And yes on the S&N Chassis like others have said, IMO one of the best in the business. I have one and have no regrets on the choice I made.

Arnt they bending it now?? Thats cool to see all the prebent pieces for a entire car laying on the ground.

Do you have some inside info?:redneck: I know DSI is here, and I didn't ask if they where still planning on doing them both at the same time because the plan is for Dave's to get done as a full roller this week.:haha:

Maybe I'll take a drive down there to see this entire car of prebent pieces laying on the ground. I wont hold my breath though!:redneck:

It's all about the timing, sometimes were ready to build a chassis right away, but in your case your at the back of the line:fawkdancesmiley: .

Full roller in one week..... that's completely doable, done it before and we'll do it again.:flipoff: We'll be wrapping up 2 TJ's during this week too. It's all about deadlines, and long weeks:mad:

Here's a couple of prebent car's. Shifty's is one of them
