Reiter Water Crossings Improvements

Steve from Stump Jumpers and myself (Repersenting RTW) have been working with/for David Way of DNR to improve two water crossings and keep Fish and Game happy. (we can only hope).

Yesterday (9/15/09) Improvements were made to the Sac Up/Poop Chute turn off from Reiter Road. Please not this is still a work in progress and not 100% complete, so tread lightly if you use this water crossing. You should do that anyway, but now more then ever.

Today (9/16/09) Improvements were made to the water crossing under the small power lines off the Reiter Pond Fish Hatchery road. This is also still a work in progress, the the same cautions as stated above.

Also it was noted that vandals have visited the main pit area and toar down all the informational postings and distroyed them.

David Way will be installing new replacements as soon as he has time.

Here are a couple more photos.

1. An old bridge just down stream form the water crossing

2. One end of the old bridge (we could build bridges like this, and maintain them)

3. Looking at the existing water crossing form the old bridge location.

Improvements are a good thing.

I'd get all upset about the vandal's and signage.......but it is, was a will be bound to happen. The DNR knows this all too well. I;m actually surprised they lasted this long. At least the wood is still upright.:redneck:

The crossings will get torn up; even unintentionally. We all know this. I always look a these initial "fixes" as a temporary thing and a test bed for the permanent fix. But they do look good and hope we can all "baby sit" them for the upcoming weeks/months. The longer they initially last, the more accepted the final solution becomes by the masses.

Whats wrong with that old crossing?directional? maybe rebuild that older crossing and make it directional...

It was intened as a bike crossing. We'd just crush it. As me how I know.:redneck:

The only (maybe) good parts left are the main logs and the 4x4 rails, the rest is totally rotten and the trail to this bridge is long gone to Blackberrys and other growning things.

The only way you can get to this bridge today is down the stram bed. It makes a nice view point as you cross the stream, but that is about all.

I do tend to agree with you on this Money, but if we keep harping, it just may help and it sure as hell cannot hurt. And no it is not :rb: so :fawkdancesmiley:

Some of what I see people calling unintentional damage, is just so much bullshit. When you are attempting an obsticale and you keep pounding on it time after time and digging holes and changing the obsticale that is not unintintional in my book.

Give it a couple three tries and then go back or get the winch out to move on. No this does not apply to things like the rock face where things do not change with attempt after attempt except the line if the driver is smart.

Yeah, I may catch a lot of **** for these statements, but it is how I see it.

A chunk of plexiglass or lexan in a steel angle iron frames would do wonders in keeping the info safe. it'll still get vandalized but will last a quite a bit longer.

My Dad's business has built a bunch of them for a few different park boards up here.

Pretty easy to do an a volunteer group with a welder can easily fab some up.

You and David are thinking almost the same thing. he talked a bout a Plexaglass Cover and I suggested just chicken wire fenceing as the posters are not paper, but a cloth type material (Only thing I can think of is Oil Cloth, but most of you are too young to know what that is). The vandals had to work to tear them, but tear most of them they did.

I told David I would staple the old ones back up[ and then cover witht he chicken wire fiencing, then they would have to work three or four times as hard to get them off.

Considered defacing government property if I am not mistaken. In actuality it can be looked down apon just like removing or defacing posted info that the DNR puts up.
