What is the best "offshore" brand winch?

only shitty part about the shitty-built is it wont free spool very easily in cold temps. you hafta run it out, no biggie..
my buds cracked a housing, but the warn before it did the same thing.

Really? I have never had to run mine out. It has always free spooled. Ya know ya gotta move that little lever on top to get it to free spool right?:haha::fawkdancesmiley:

If you don't do a lot of hardcore wheeling like myself, then the Smittybilt will work just fine. If you are wheeling and have to winch multiple times a day and your out wheeling every other day. Then I'd go Warn. IMHO

the two smitty-builts i have seen in action dont free spool for ****..and make a ton of noise..and are slow as hell.. ill stick with warn, you can get deals on craigslist warns if you keep on it..

whatever you do don't buy the warn m8000. those things cant even pull out a tampon :haha:

I'm more than happy with my M8000.....an older one bought off CL for $250.
Honestly, most used Warns, even if they need a little work, will be a better VALUE than buying any of the "offshore" stuff.....

My M800 pulled a toyota off it's roof and right back on its wheels. No problem at all it didn't miss a beat really never even slowed down and it was pulling it uphill.

I would personally prefer a 8274 way faster and reliable but if you dont have room for it well then I would definetly recomend the M8000.

I did the same with my shitty built........it has worked great but I always use it for everyone else thats stuck ......not to pull my own rig out....LOL!

my superwinch epi9 works great, the only finisher w/warn in some mag's winch pull off. When i got it, it was quite a bit cheeper than a warn, i think right inbetween the cheepys and the warn. It also has way less amp draw and a very good line speed compared to others.

I asked Mike at the 4wheelparts in Alderwood, and he said there wasn't a lifetime warranty option...? I'll ask him again today when I stop by there.

Call their 800 number, it was only 50 bucks extra and he claims it covers everything down to the wire breaking and if something does go wrong it will just be a straight exchange not sending it in for repair.

I put the big motor on my 8274 when I rebuilt it 2 years ago and it is way faster than stock now. The free speed is almost scary. You have to real careful when you are guiding the line in with no load.
I agree. The M8274-50 is scary fast. I alway get coments about how fast it is. Even got one after I did a double line pull.

Yeah I talked to him about it. he wanted 59.99 and said that it's an in house fix. Who ever I was talking to was a ****ing idiot. I have 30 days to add it on so I will call someone with half a brain cell about it tomorrow. Thanks! :awesomework:

Hmmm, Now I dont know what to do.

I dont think I will use this thing as much as you guys do. Maybe a few times a year ( I know that doesnt vouch going "offshore brand") but what about verticle vs laydown mount?

If I dont use it much do I need that HUGE winch hanging off my bumper? I would have to re-work my bumper almost 100% because I built it around a lay down style and didnt intend on running my verticle. (Laydown is roughly 6" deep X 6" high and the verticle is 9" deep by 16" high!!!)

I also have another option, I COULD go smitty built on the front of this truck (as it isnt getting used much and I just noticed this "extreme" waranty) and keep my 8274 for my wheeler I build next year as I would never want to purchase that thing and it "seems" to be an all out favorite)? Although everyone wants me to solid axle this rig, I would rather buy one I dont give a **** about to beat the piss out of, theres nothing more that would piss me off is listening to some winey guy bitching about body damage in the woods. Play the game or dont play.

Dont get me wrong, I will wheel/cross country/ camp/ adventure in this rig as it is very street capable and I dont care about the paint, so it still spends 40% of its life offroad. (I just cant wait to get long travel suspension!). Thats where im torn even wasting $ on somthing I wont trust everytime. How will an "Extreme Warranty" get me unstuck when my winch fails???? :looser:

Hmmm no matter which way I flip it im spending more than I want to right now...

...

I laugh as you question the reliablity of a cheap winch and yet praise an ifs long travel kit!!

your going to need both the lay down and upright if you install a long travel IFS kit and wheel it!! :haha::haha:
