They do make replacements with the safety catch in 'em now (so the motor doesn't leave the engine bay in the case of another broken mount :redneck:...)...Can't remember where I've seen 'em, but I have...
Put an x-pipe in the exhaust, made it about 50% quieter to drive. Picked up some power. Put an MSD box in to replace the dead one and fresh wires. It liked it.
Totalled it looks like you might be the right guy to talk to since I have converted to the dark side and now own numerous ford trucks, my tow rig for years was a 1972 chev 4x4 but now I would like to restore my 1977 f-250 4x4 with a 390 and since I always liked having similar running gear in my trail rig as my tow rig I was contemplating dropping a 390 in my cj but the only FE I have ever had before was in a 1966 galaxie. I have been doing a lot of research like 428 crank with 406 pistons/or 360 with 390 cranks but the common theme is to make sure that the engine builder is very familiar with the FE engines.:eeek:
390? probably but definately a FE, the research I have done says that early 1977 was still a Highboy and could have been a 390. I work with the guy who gave it to me and the truck was his brothers who passed away and its been sitting for 20yrs, so the guy I got it from said his brother swapped the motor out in 1979 from 1967 or 1968 car, who knows.:redneck:
