Renovation of a YJ

Yup, long day, but well worth it in the end---LOTS of progress was made....NEEDED to get the fenders finished and mounted so we knew what we had for space in mounting the ECM and underhood fuse block :awesomework:...These items were originally inside the passenger area on the old tub where the heater box would be, along with a total ratsnest :yikes: of wiring, all hidden by the alum. panel that WAS the dash....The wiring will be cleaned up of course.

It almost doesn't even need a paint job, by the time the Genright corner guards/rear tube flares are on... What'll be left that's exposed looks really good already!!! :haha:

Kevin hung a set of half doors this week. Also, we dropped the new cage in place today and confirmed that the soft top does fit over the cage. Finally!! Some real progress.

Good progress today... Not only did we confirm the top fits over the cage---the cage is secured in place. Got started on cleaning up some of the wiring, built a bracket and got the ECM mounted, and the underhood fuse box mounted as well..
Next on the list is getting the rear axle's brakes completed (got the rear discs on), just need to plumb the calipers and bleed, then install the axleshafts...then I can throw the tires back on and scratch that off the list...:awesomework:

dont forget the rear tire has to fit the wheel well.....:fawkdancesmiley::stirpot::haha:

After a few weeks of frustatingly slow progress, we made some real progress this week. The brakes are done. The rears are converted to disk and all the rubber lines are replaced with braided stainless lines. Most of the hard lines were replaced with kink-free lines from NAPA in Bellingham. Those are fantastic!!

Yesterday we hung the rear corners and mounted the rear tube fenders. Even though the front and rear tube fenders are different brands the top sightlines line up perfectly. Unfortunately the batteries died in the camera before I could capture that.

The plan for the next week is to get the rig running. That means getting both the wiring done as well as mounting the new fuel tank.

We (well, really Kevin) have been beating our heads on a wall trying to get a '95 harness to work with an '89 body. I joined jeepforum last night and someone came up with the detail that we needed - the pin outs for the bulkhead fitting on the tub.

Funny you mention, those Flares are actually for a stretched TJ, and we didn't read the instructions, which stated so, that they "may require modification to fit a YJ"...needless to say, they also fit a YJ unmodded! :redneck: at first it looked kinda goofy, but it grows on ya...

Welp, after a few evenings of cleaning up wiring, and grafting 3 different yr harnesses together, I lit it off tonight!!! Oh what a feeling!!! :cheer:
I did forget we cut the exhaust out of it when we removed the old tub, until it fired---man was it loud!! One more item to add to the punch list...:haha:

Looks like the pile of wires I removed from my buddies heep when he first got it... Except it's missing all the twist connectors tiring everything together :haha:
