Yum... Tacos

Got the U-bolts cut down and the springs locked to the front diff.

Got the steering box centered and rest steering stuff installed along with those damn tough shocks--man they can be a pain some times :redneck:

So I am as far as I can go with the front diff now.

With the 3.4 you gotta run a shorter radiator. Never heard of anybody having overheating issues plus this rad is OEM so it should be aok. Plus the hoses were leaking so all thats getting replaced.

Ya--I remember seeing robs rig--eeeeek... That thing was a limo...

WAS being the keyword. At some point he stopped giving a damn on keeping it clean, and now it's bashed to **** now. Last I'd heard, it hadn't moved farther than the driveway in years.

Yet another "If you can't buy it..." scenario.

Must be a TG kit thing. I've don't recall anyone ever having to swap out the rad for a SAS on a Taco before. What's the reason for the shorter rad (genuine curiosity)? Was it interfering with the steering or something?

Is it my beer goggles, or is the new (shorter) one also wider? It looks like it is in the first pic (but not so much in the second).

Its possible TG has changed the kits a wee bit since the early days. One reason I can see though is how far the rad sits below the frame rails.

Its an illusion--they are the same width.

Little oversight--ya the shroud is a wee bit too long, lol.

Gave jason a mission to figure out the right one--he got it nailed and got it ordered...:awesomework:

So the new radiator has to be clearanced on the driver side due to the steering box and the extra frame width due to the steering box brace. I found the easiest method rather than putting the rad in and out---unbolt the one side and work it that way--worked quite well..

So basically I had to remove a good portion of where the lower part of the shroud bolts and the ribs down near the lower bolt.

Quick question, with the weight of the rig on the axle now (mimicking wheels on ground), why have the angle of the shackle near vertical? In fact it appears to be angle slightly forward, not back?

That was recommended by TG and the shackles are pretty short so they are going to swing pretty fast on compression/droop.

There is a pretty small window to work with in relation to the frame and how the shackle mounts are made and the needed spring to spring width.

Once the front bumper is on they will be canted back a bit and a tad more one the springs break in.

I ended up clearanceing the passenger side a tad but the radiator is now in. I can get the trans cooler lines in next and then the power steering hoses ran. Just waiting for the new fan shroud and then the new radiator hoses and that area should be done.

Front brake stuff is now on. With these style of brake lines it required 2 clips per line--one on the front and one on the rear of it.

I went ahead and pulled the gas tank so i could get 100% of the old mount and have room to fully weld the new mount in.

Anything worth doing is worth doing it 110%.
