So this is something I found interesting. The steering joint they sent for at the column was wrong. Whats odd is from what I found the smaller diameter shaft on the column was early and this truck being a later model it should have had the larger diameter shaft.

In any case the right one is on its way,

Something else I found odd was you were simply supposed to remove the seal at the firewall plate and swap it over to the new plate. Well the seal was way to small for the new plate. TG only shows one seal so will see when the new one shows up what the scoop is.

Got the front shock hoops burned in and the lower mounts tacked to the housing.

So its almost time to pull the housing out and burn the front hanger in and assemble the front housing...

I've worked on fixing at least one of 'em that was done around here back then... Sloppy work to say the least... Not that I'm entirely happy with the swap we did on Rob's rig, but it was light years better than what I "got" to fix.

I'm trying to remember if we had to do anything special with the steering shaft on Rob's rig way back when, but that was so damned long ago that I really can't remember anymore. I really don't recall doing anything other than picking up a rag joint to mate with the steering box he'd picked up, and it was a direct bolt-up. His rig was an '01, and (IIRC) we grabbed a rag joint from an '80s 4Runner.

There are a couple of things that scared me about Rob's rig, and I did half the work on it lol

Got the cross member mounts done and painted and installed. The kit was designed to be bolted--why the heck would you bolt it. Ya---I burned them things in...

I always used older toy steering shaft parts to build a new shaft out of.

The taco cv joint splined coupler can even be cut off and welded to a donor easily.

Back before the days of ordering a new firewall plate, I made one that reused the stock seal. Cut the seal mount area out and welded in into a new formed plate. What a pain in the ass.

Later on, I would just make a new plate and use an aftermarket shifter boot. Much easier and no cold air up the leg!

So I got the knuckles installed since they needed on before I could weld the steering stops on. So got them all welded along with the shock mounts and managed to get it painted late last night.

Took a little work with an aching back but got the springs in and housing in place. Still gotta get the spring plates painted and tossed on.

Forgot to mention you really need to yank the exhaut apart to give ya ample room. I had to tweek the mount a bit due to a clearnce issue with the cross member.
