• Help Support Hardline Crawlers :

Finally....Da new rig..

I have a habit of stopping about once a week and just cleaning up the whole shop or as I like to call it a reboot. Everything gets put away and stuff organized.

These have been sitting in a box for months just waiting to be used. My old rig ran QA1 5/8" hiems. After a few runs they would loosen up and not long after that they turned into a clattering mess--drove me nuts.

These are 7/8 ruffstuff hiems.

One thing I was contemplating was ditching the argo single ended ram and going with something better. This showed up and ruffstuff had there year end sale and ordered up hiems for it.

So I had a bunch of brackets cut but the ones at the skid I had to make for the links.

The links are my new line of ultra strong white aluminum---10x stronger than anything on the planet :redneck:

So I started with the lowers.

So with the tabs tacked in place I made a jig to mark the holes for the upper links. Once marked I pulled the skid. I pulled it by hand and barely got it out of the chassis due to weight and no foot holds.

So I burned everything together and got smart and used the engine hoist to place it back.

Here is a little trick I use when needed on the tabs. I always weld the outside on the tab and then the inside and typically pulls the tab out and bacck in and once in a while its in by 1/64" and when it is I use this trick. Sure you can beat it with a hammer but they tends to bend the outer edge where this trick pushes the whole tab--works really good.

So I got the upper link mounts built and burned in at the skid. Ya the bolts are certainly tight. I might boat side the rig and if I do I will more than likely turn the bolts around. The little hole between the tube and outer edge of the skid is just enough room for a 5/8" nut to sit but thats for a later time.

I got the new rear truss built. I went simple and strong and a little different from what was there due to the uppers being in boarded more.

But measurements are off to my buddy matt and have new links here soon...
