Golden Mountain Off-road Park opening

T'was great to be back in the friendly confines of Golden Mountain again! I didn't bring the buggy since I woke up with an eye swollen shut Friday morning and just bummed an open passenger seat with a buddy. Went up Friday evening with the family to hang out, eat supper, and see some friends again for the first time in a few years.

Went back early Saturday morning and rode in a group of two Jimmy Smith buggies and had hit or seen all the "big name" trails/obstacles by 10am. After that, we just went out trail riding and avoided traffic jams until 4ish. They called it quits for the day since nothing was broken and we had ridden nearly everything there minus some short trails and just wanted to avoided any potential traffic jams if possible. They loaded up and head out. I wandered around for a bit to see a few more folks before heading back to mom's to replace the started on her truck.

Was a fun trip, with great traction, minimal dust, maximum humidity, and a great turnout. Supposedly the offorad insurance is nearly good to go, so hopefully the park will be back open for normal riding soon.

Enough typing, here are some pictures.

I'm glad you took some good pictures, I only got like 5...

Not being a hater, but looking at your map tracks, y'all did miss a several good trails/obstacles. Probably hit a little more than half.

If they get the park rolling again, I hope they can get use of the north of the race track for events also. That adds another few good trails and crawling area.

The new bridge coming out of the Jungle is nice. It makes the Jungle area a very cool easy/moderate trail, with different levels of obstacles if you want to rock bounce, crawl big rocks, technical climb, or just bail out the bridge.

I'm always snapping pictures, so surely one or two will turn out decent. Think I kept around 122 originally but have paired that down some since then.

:rolf: on the hater comment and good to know on overall coverage. When you zoom in, there's more detail into what trails were taken but that zoomed out showed the majority. Despite spending a fair amount of time there back in the day, I never spent much/any time on the Red trails so was totally lost on most of them. Looking at the paper and CartoTracks map, we were starting to run out of trail numbers to ride though.

Agreed on having access to the north side as well and the new bridge/Jungle area. Was great to be back there and see folks I hadn't seen in quite awhile.

This nasty ledge/notch is on 26, a trail we have on the map as a green trail. Obviously, that one is gonna get an upgrade for sure. We made a multitude of notes for some changes to our map as expected but certainly couldn't cover the entire park ourselves in a weekend. So… Y'ALL HELP US OUT PLEASE:
If you remember something in the park that needed an upgrade from our existing map, please, by all means, tell us! Screenshots of the map work well, put the crosshairs over the spot you want to highlight and tell us your opinion on what needs to happen there. Email those to CartoTracks at Gmail dot com. It's that easy.

Thanks!
We had a blast and were so happy to see so many in the park. Hopefully the Waters see the value and we can do this A LOT more often.

@CartoTracks overall I think the map tracking worked pretty well, all things considered. As mentioned, the difficulty of some trails will need to be updated accordingly though, which is expected after so many years.

I was riding passenger and picking trails, so biggest issue I ran into over the weekend was just a lack of trail markings at intersections. Being closed for so long, it's understandable that trail markings are MIA, but that was a park issue, not a you issue. We got turned around a handful of times do to incorrectly guessing which intersection (as well as my complete lack of experience with the Red trails) but was pretty minor overall.

I went Saturday and had a great time. It was good to be back at GMP. It looked like a decent turnout for a one day ride. I found a four LED square pod light and left it at the entrance building in case anyone here lost one.
