I'm nobody on here........but just as a passing nobody all I see is A LOT of really big welds and tube that has been "ovalized" to the point that nothing will be able to be clamped to it ..."ie" go pro mounts.......and mainly making the future bent tube replacement impossible.....................

Oh and a clear coated tube will rust through in time

No clue really....but we did a flame job on a hotrod in bare metal....cleared it and it started to show surface rust about a year later...........maybe something we did wrong OE something but it did it none the less......

I also did a few parts on my last crawler in bare metal and clear and they all started to surface rust under the clear.....

I did a complete buggy for a guy and it rusted under the clear also.

The clear doesn't adhere to the bare steel well. You can oil the steel a ton and keep it oiled at it might be ok but it'll be an ongoing process

Interesting. Were they powder coated clear? My thought on it would be that it would burn out all the oils embeded in the material. The finished parts I am dealing with will be oiled down when they are complete and then dried. Then it will get clear coat spray paint for easy touch up.

My experience is with paint. Id say clear powder would work if it is possible. Possibly don't want the metal oiled, but im not the expert on powder

They have to sandblast it first, so it wont look nearly as good as it does now. At least thats what my local powder coater told me when I wanted to do the same thing.

No just acid etch which is a wash. Sand blast will def make the powder stick better but not done on most commercial parts.

I think they have come out with a clear etching primer that might help from it happening, I'll try to remember to ask my PPG paint rep when he comes by the shop next Tuesday.

Yeah, powder was never in the plan. That heater gets so hot it would dull the colors.

Most powders cure at 375 or 400. If you want to do a test piece weld something small and ship it to me I will powder clear it. Send a pm if interested.

That is definatly something I am interested in doing some research on. Maybe not for this particular project, due to time restrictions, but stuff is rolling in that might require that touch.

This build has turned into the most humbling, learning experience I have ever encountered. Among other things, I have learned that if I want to build my company, attract and keep customers? I need to represent the customers I have, with the fabrication they came here to get. Not much of anything else.

Now that my eyes are open, I can finally get a grip on this part of fabrication that I haven't really understood. I appreciate everyone that contributed to the learning process. Now it seems so very simple.

Let's build....
