The talk about cat in Chinese restaurants in the random pic thread combined with my wife's stubbornness to try anything new in terms of food made me think of this.
I'm pretty adventurous when it comes to food. I'll try just about anything once. I may not like it and never eat it again but I'll at least give it a try. I've had gator, frog, snake, probably a number of weird **** that I can't even recall right now. I've even had fried grasshoppers and a raw earth worm. I'm not one to care about what it is if it taste good, either. You could tell me it's rat meat, I don't care. If its good and not poisonous I'll not only try it, I'll eat it again. I'm pretty sure I've had cat at a Chinese restaurant and, in all honesty, I would eat there again if I was assured that the cat was sanitary / not infested with worms or some ****.
Probably the weirdest I've tried is a can of maggots. It was a dare but in China they do actually eat marinated maggots from tin cans. Some guy at my work went on a trip there and brought back a case of the cans. Offered anyone who could down an entire 4-oz can in 60 seconds or less $500. No one could do it. They were dry as ****. It was like eating sawdust even though they were covered in gravy / marinade. The instant they hit your mouth all your saliva got soaked up and swallowing became almost impossible. In all honesty though I find sardines to be a more fowl taste than the maggots were.
