The talk about cat in Chinese restaurants in the random pic thread combined with my wife's stubbornness to try anything new in terms of food made me think of this.

I'm pretty adventurous when it comes to food. I'll try just about anything once. I may not like it and never eat it again but I'll at least give it a try. I've had gator, frog, snake, probably a number of weird **** that I can't even recall right now. I've even had fried grasshoppers and a raw earth worm. I'm not one to care about what it is if it taste good, either. You could tell me it's rat meat, I don't care. If its good and not poisonous I'll not only try it, I'll eat it again. I'm pretty sure I've had cat at a Chinese restaurant and, in all honesty, I would eat there again if I was assured that the cat was sanitary / not infested with worms or some ****.

Probably the weirdest I've tried is a can of maggots. It was a dare but in China they do actually eat marinated maggots from tin cans. Some guy at my work went on a trip there and brought back a case of the cans. Offered anyone who could down an entire 4-oz can in 60 seconds or less $500. No one could do it. They were dry as ****. It was like eating sawdust even though they were covered in gravy / marinade. The instant they hit your mouth all your saliva got soaked up and swallowing became almost impossible. In all honesty though I find sardines to be a more fowl taste than the maggots were.

I used to do survival weekends and ate whatever I could find, crickets, worms, grubs, turtles etc. My father in law likes to try and find odd things just to see if I'll eat them like chocolate chip cricket cookies. Grasshoppers actually aren't that bad but the legs are hard to swallow. Raw octopus, the sushi places cook it don't let them fool you, is another that's hard to swallow due to the tentacles. My favorite has to be years ago my father in law and I were at a cave watching bats and he had brought meal worms and we were throwing them and the bats would swoop down and catch them. The local news channel was there and ask us what they were so I grabbed a few and ate them on camera and said they tasted like corn. My grandmother called me the next day and told me I was an idiot. Good times.

Not me but my sister lives in japan and them chinks eat some crazy ****. She's ate LIVE octopus, said you gotta chew it for atleast 15 seconds to kill it so it doesnt suck to your throat and kill you :****: :****:

We were in Europe once and my dad ordered live octopus. I was too young to have the courage to try it. He said it was terrible though. He took 2 bites and couldn't go any further. I don't even think he killed it, just maimed it. :)

Pretty tame..

Insect: Crickets, night crawlers, ants,

Reptile: snapping turtle, soft shell mud turtles, and of course frog(amphibian...), alligator, snake

Mammal: bear (odd to me because it's not a herbivore), beaver

Never had the opportunity to try non standard sea food...

eaten worms crickets and katydids katydids try to crawl out quicker than the other two and they pop when you bite into them friend of mine eat a live frog years ago I wasn't that hungry also we were working cattle and cutting the small bulls and another guy I know eat a nut right after we cut it out of the sack

In Poland I ordered perogi, which is a ravioli more or less. Had a mystery meat inside, but was absolutely one of the best things I have ever eaten. Then went outside to check out the terrace, and there was at least a hundred kittens, but no cats. So I can safely say that cat is the wierdest thing I have ever eaten.
:eat:

Oh, and chitlins and collard greens. Black platoon sgt invited me over for Thanksgiving, me and the ex, along with another sgt. and his ex were the only white people there with what felt like every black face in the Army and thier families. Walked into his apt and they had the intestine haanging out the window hosing it out with the kitchen sink sprayer. The reason I mention that, is that it was a 2nd story apt. Wonder what the people on the first floor thought about it...
