Let's see your tow rig!!!

$12k
Stock, 345k miles.
New injection pump.
New 5-speed transmission.
New wheels, tires, brakes, etc.
I have an entire new front end for it ready to go in. 2500 in parts NIB. All bushings, coils, shocks, tie-rod ends, etc. Everything.
Needs some electrical work, as all first gens do, but it runs and drives prefect. No smoke. No performance mods, etc.

Sounds good. Where at in TX are you located? Any interior pics?
 
SW of Houston about 45 miles.
No pics right now. Interior is blue/grey with a bench seat. No headliner, but has new weather stripping on the drivers side (new one for the passenger side is NIB) new CD player and 6x9s in the door, clean dash, power windows, door locks, and mirrors. New window motors (passenger side needs install)

Also has new headlights , grille, taillights, LED everything. Put a lot of money in it and got tired of it. It sits there and needs to be driven. I drive it maybe once a week.

Nice to know it's sipping gas AL Gore would be so happy to know. On a more serious note. Great looking truck and glad to see a big block still dragging things around!
 
Well, finally decided to upgrade from my crew cab 454 to a diesel. I looked for weeks and weeks for an 8.1L, but they are impossible to find in a crew cab. Well, not impossible, but very difficult. Add the fact that I pretty much only wanted white in color, it wasn't going to happen. So I "settled" for a diesel. So, far, I really really like it.

No need for an intake on a Duramax. 100% waste of money. Just pop the diffuser fan looking thing out of the end of the stock airbox.
 
See man. Why? Why didn't I know this before I bought that bullshit?? I'm gonna have to hit U up before I do **** from now on. Always amazes me how much U know bout ****. Said it once I'll say it again. Modern day mcgiver!!

Can I take it out now without the exhaust and "chip". And what chip do you recommend? I don't think I want or need any big horse tuners or anything but I wouldn't mind just some small mods. This things runs great now. Guy said it never had a tuner on it that he was aware of any that it was stock, but he said it was faster than any other Duramax he owned so he thought maybe someone slighty modded it somehow. I have no idea. It's my first diesel. Maybe I need to start a new thread "Diesels for dummies" so I can learn more stuff.

What year is your truck?
5 or 6 speed Allison?

Honestly, leaving it stock will be the most reliable.

2006. From the vin and what I read, it's the LLY, not the LBZ. It has a 6 speed auto with a manual switch also

Good, in 06+ everything is the same mechanically as far as I know, the LLY just has the lower performance tune.

Your truck actually may have been reflashed at the dealer with an LBZ tune. Pretty common.

I'd get with Adrenaline Truck Performance and get an EFILive Autocal with Dsp2 or Dsp5 (or you can buy the EFILive interface and do the program uploading yourself).

The Duramax is pretty awesome having the ability to have a 2 or 5 position switch on the dash and select custom tunes on the fly. The ATP "Towing" tune is my favorite, builds torque super quick off idle, and when the trailer tow button is pushed, uses the variable geometry turbo as an exhaust brake.

A basic "build" for your truck would be:
(My truck has)
Modded air intake
4" turbo back exhaust
Trans go Jr shift kit
Egr block off plate
Pcv re-route
Dsp2 or 5 with custom tunes to match mods.



If you aren't going to do ALL those mods, just leave it stock. It'll be fine and run 300k +miles with engine/trans oil/filter changes and fuel filter changes.

Dad has put 300k on 2 different trucks, an 06 and an 07 classic.

My 07 has 240k on it and the trans has started to get where I can slip it if I drive like a jackass on the high hp (+100 hp) tunes.




I would also HIGHLY suggest the cognito steering arm braces and a new set of bilstein 5100 shocks. Also make sure your front bump stops (jounce bumpers) are intact.
 
Thanks a lot!! I'll read up on those things for sure along with steering and shocks. Which reminds me.....you have any advice on front leveling. Duallys look like they have so much more rake than normal trucks I wish it was at least close to level.

Just turn up the torsion bars to where you want it to set and get an alignment.

Definitely put the steering arm braces on if you turn the front end up.

They keep the center link from rolling up-down and firm up the "dead spot"

definitely do the Cognito braces.
EFI is where it's at. you can also get with Fleece Performance in Indiana. they've done 2 trucks for me.

mine is the (2007) LBZ with a 4" MBRP, DSP5, EFI, SCIV, egr block plate and love it. my hot tune is a daily driver and my tow tune is perfect for heavy towing (imo).

you'll love it towing. great truck, great motor. mine has 124K on it (bought it with 19,000)

and congrats on the new tow rig! :smoke:
