YJ Build...just a little different.

I was able to spend a couple of hours on the Jeep today. Got the grill trimmed as the winch will be recessed and got the rear lower links in place. Pulled a few measurements as well with it sitting at ride height. At the rocker panel, it is 24" and at the frame rail it is 20". Top of the B pillar is 75". For reference, my girlfriend is standing next to it and she is 5' 2".

Did you make the body mount bracket for the rear? I backhalfed my Jeep and need to add the body mounts back in.

I got the brackets from 4x4 outlet.com. The body mount brackets are part of his backhalf kit along with a couple of other pieces, but when I talked to him, he was willing to customize the kit in regards to the pieces I wanted and those I did not need.

I'm diggin' this rig. You don't need tons and an LS in every situation. It's going to be like a sami, but comfortable. Keep up the good work!

X2. I'm interested to set how much it ends up weighing.

Picked up a set of rear coilover mounts and extended fender tops from Dan @ Motobilt the other day and had an hour or so today to play around with them. It is a slick setup and will make mounting the rear coilovers very simple and keep everything tucked under the rear fenders and allow the ride height and COG to remain low. Hope to get the rears mocked up and ready for final weld by the end of next weekend.

A little more on the coilover mounts, they have a top plate that sandwiches the fender top and are designed for mounting on 1.75" tube. The top plate also allows you to tie the coilover mount to your cage as well. The Fender tops gain you almost 4" in height as well, allowing you to tuck your tires in the wheel well, thereby reducing the amount of lift needed to clear larger tires.

Managed to get a few hours to work on the Jeep today. I got the rear fender wells finished up and the rear coilover mounts mocked up. I have a set of corners coming that will re-center the rear wheel opening and there is a good amount of sheet metal on the rear that is going away....it's going to sit low.

I love this build. :driving:

Thanks for posting pics of the Motobilt fenders. I'm still on the fence about spending the money on them or making my own.

Thanks, in my opinion the Motobilt fenders are worth it. Unless you have access to solidworks, a torchmate and a brake I think you would be hard pressed to come up with fender tops that are as well designed as these ones.

So the other day my rear corners and rocker guards came in and yesterday I was able to get a few hours to work on the Jeep and trim out the rear wheel wells and fit the new corners and rocker guards. Should be able to finish up the rear suspension soon as now I can articulate the suspension. Eventually the corners and rocker guards will get painted to match the body.

I was able to spend a few hours on the Jeep yesterday. The rear fender tops have been tacked into place along with the rear coilover mounts. I also cut down an upper link bracket to fit the rear axle housing, the plan is to get everything welded in next weekend.

any idea how much your front axle weighs? I've been wanting to do a similar build with a TJ for a while. 4 cylinder auto and LIGHT LIGHT LIGHT!

Educated guess would be around 275 - 290 pounds... I never weighed the axles. Rear is probably 240 - 250 pounds.
