Resurrecting this to see if anything ever happened since last winter. Any updates to the Tundra setup?

Nah. Truth be told, I evaluated a few slide in truck campers and decided that it just wasn't realistic for a family of 4 plus dog. So we've had a change of plans. For now, we'll keep tent camping or mooching off friends campers. Eventually. I'll be getting a diesel crew cab truck with a larger bumper pull or fifth wheel on a gooseneck crawler hauler setup. Similar ish to this setup...

A friend of mine had a 20' tag along converted to a gooseneck and added 4' to the front deck with an enclosed steel box for tools. It was used to haul a Chevelle drag car. It definitely towed better as a gooseneck on the curvy roads.
