01 jeep wrangler 4.0 auto - Gutting the cat

One time I thought my cat was plugged up, same story you're telling here.
I used to submerge it all the time, I thought surely there was mud caked in there. Well I did a cat-back exhaust and I can tell you the cat was fine because its still there and everything works fine now. The new exhaust made a much bigger difference than I expected, great improvement.

That was uncalled for and you need more experience in a shop. It is a very common problem on the wranglers. Fuel pressure drops off after warming up. Will idle fine but no power on hills.

It may have been a little harsh, and I'm sorry. But where did you come up with that? Based off the symptoms he described a clogged cat is probably correct or he just needs a tune-up (plugs,wires,cap,etc..). No where did he said he was having run-ability issues. He described lack of power. I have plenty of experience in an auto shop, thats what I do for a living. :awesomework:

Leave the kittay alone unless it truely is clogged... then replace it with another...

Yeah, unless the previous owner was going thru lots of mud and sitting there, letting it build up and harden, etc it might just be carbon build up and a shitty muffler. Sounds like its time for a tune up and some motor mods.

Could be the auto tranny?

so used to sticks, might be bad bands or a torque converter?

just seems like - kinda like a flat cam, or there's more motor - but where is it hiding?

Not a problem, I don't take things personal, but I do not wish this to turn into another Pirate (bash everyone) type board.

I came up with that because;

1. It has happened to me on my own vehicle.
2. I own a shop and we replace 4-5 fuel pumps a year on the wrangler closed loop systems for this problem.
3. from Chysler, they have an updated fuel pump assy to correct for this problem.
4. from trying to explain to customer exactly what was happening and showing them. before, and after. (we have to hook up a fuel pressure guage and drive it until the problem occurs and show them the pressure dropping off at the same time. It will idle just fine and run fine, but have a lack of power.
5. from engine diagnostic troubleshooting certifications (this is wayyyy beyond ASE certs.)
6. from 35 years of automotive repair experience.
