1st Gen Charging Issue

Um doesn't a GM 1 wire only have 1 wire! WTF

Ok some people sell 1 wire alternators that still have the terminals for the #1 and #2 wires. If this is what you have try unplugging them and see if that works. On a 3 wire the #1 is only used to supply a gound to turn on the idiot light, nothing else! Then #2 can be looped directly to the B+ terminal as a sensing wire for the regulator. B# usually goes to the starter to keep it as short as possible.:naughty nanner:

Yeah I got a 3 wire. Thought I got a 1 wire... But I had the #2 sense wire going to the battery, now I have it looped to the B terminal like you said. We will see what that does...

#2 wire to the batt should be ok as long as the wire is large enough and you dont have a **** load of other wires hooked to the + cable end. This can trick the alt into over charging.

So i have my alternator wiring like this and its still climbing volts when I rev it. Have a brand new battery.

White wire goes to a yellow wire I believe goes to the charge light.
