Motor woes, almost figured out. Help me troubleshoot.

Well I think I know what is causing the problems with my motor.

After new plugs, new wires nothing happened.

Checked my distrubutor CAP and its still new! only has had 1,100 miles put on it.

Now the wierd part. Piston 1 spark plug does not sprak, but piston 3 spark plug does.

Does this sound like a distrubor issue? Any idea the part number on this buggle for a 20R 4wd and a cost?

Should I just buy one and go from there or?

K thats what I thought.

Was just going to post this

"I believe if you look at the engine from the front of the truck it would be 1-3-4-2 am I wrong?"

Thanks!

Yes, 1-3-4-2 is the firing order for the 20R. The cylinders are numbered from front to back 1,2,3,4...

Well replaced the spark plug wires and spark plugs.

Turns out the wire from the distrubutor cap to the starter popped out. So that may be why it didn't start "last night"

I was able to get a dip stick so I have no clue where the oil is at. I tried a 22RE but I don't think it was long enough. Because it was registering no oil. However, I know the amount was low so I did put a quart in it.

Tried it again and the engine try's to start but its beyond shaking. Nothing cracked or leaking however, no drips, clean radiator fluid. Everythings clean! lol.

Last try I had a nice blume of blue smoke popped out of the carb. Any ideas?

:wtf: :wtf: gosh I hate being a noob lol:mad:

I've edited the first post to this. please help me.

Did you check the timing yet?

Bring it up to TDC and make sure the rotor is pointing to #1 plug wire.

I can't check the timing because the darn truck won't turn over.

And it can't be 180 degrees because the truck died while I was driving it.

?:wtf:

Yes, you can check the timing. Put a socket wrench on the bolt in thr front of the crank. Turn the crank tell the mark in the pulley lines up with the timing marker. You will have to pull the #1 spark plug and make sure it is coming up on it's compression stroke. Then take a look at the rotor to see if it is pointing to #1.

You talked to me about the MSD box. Have you checked the ignition box in the truck now. maybe it went bad.

Thanks I'll try that today when I get home.

The ignition is working fine. Thats why I was stumped.

You should probably go the extra mile and remove the valve cover and make sure that sprocket is aligned with the TDC mark on the crank pulley. Maybe the chain is toast. The dot or silver link should be pointed "up" on the cam sprocket.

sprocket is aligned with the TDC. And timing is straight on.

Going to flip is 180 degrees as suggested just to see what happens. tried everything else.

Well that didn't work either. Everything is TDC and is timed perfectly.

carb is getting fuel but its not burning it.

Plugs were not constantly sparking. They sparked but not as they should have.

Plugs are new, wires are new, cap is new.

Sounds like a ignition coil?

What do u think?

Double, trippled and quadruply checked.

Checked everything twice basically along with the stepdad.

So its either the coil or the distrubutor. but if its not properly sparking but sparking sounds like the coil. no?

Can I replace just the module or do I need to buy a new distrubutor?

I checked with napa and it was like $150. Any other place I should check?

yep, junkyard special for the modulator. I believe the 22R distys work also.

hell, someone here might have one for ya.

Heep,
Sounds good thank you. Hopefully I can find one. I know a guy who works for toyota so I sent him an e-mail to see if he can get one. I'll also seach around.

thanks again.
