20R firing order? And my motor woes

Is there another name fr the module?

Can't find a 20r distrubutor module online.

As far as I know they are called Ignition Modules. Hit the junk yards. Ask the members on the board if anyone has a spare whole disty.

They are called "igniters" on the jap stuff. Ignition modules on the domestic stuff..

Also the only thing in the distributor is the pickup coil assembly. The correct way to test it is hook up a volt meter to the dist wires, set the meter to a/c volts and crank it and see what a/c voltage output you have. If you have lets say 500mv then you are good to go. also check to see if you are getting voltage to the ignitor and make sure you are getting constant voltage even on crank---if you then you have a bad ignitor...

Modules are crazy expensive new, so junkyard it is.

Been finding distributors for $50 which is good.

Well, I replaced the Ingiter and Coil today which solved my sparking problem. Everything is sparking as it should now.

But still... The truck won't start! I've double triple checked my firing order and everything is new (wires, plugs, cap)

Any ideas? Just for reference the truck was acting up on the road so I pulled over, turned off the truck and checked everything. Started the truck back up fine and began to drive again, but it was still acting as if I had lost spark to one of my pistons. So I pulled over. Turned the truck off. Checked everything and then it wouldn't turn back over. :wtf:

Any help would be great

Well I went to my local mechanic and asked a few questions today and well dam!

When I turn of my truck I get a pressure release noise which from what he described means that one of my Valve's are burnt.

He also said my timing chain tensioner could be out.

So my question is where should I go from here?

If I go for a brand new engine where would you suggest I get it?

Did you do a compression check yet?

Have you checked the lobes on the cam?

I know you have checked the firing order, but check 2 & 3 to see if they are swapped. I have a bad habit of this with mine.

You getting alot of noise (chian slap, rocker arm click) while it was running?

I've yet to check the compression but theres where I'm working at. Although I can turn the motor over with my hands and it does have a weak spot. I'll get a tester today.

Checked the firing order and even swapped them just for kicks and still nothing. The mechanic has offered to check it out for free because I've got work done in the past but I can't get it looked at till next week.

But I'm looking at rebuild options. Should I rebuild top and bottom or just bottom? Or should I replace it with a 22re. Where the best place to purchas?

Depends on the amount of cash you wanna spend. If you are going to do a build, might as well do it right and build the whole damn thing.

22RE is a cool option. I might have a led for ya there. Its not mine and might be gone now. I guess this head will also interchange onto the 20R. This is an 86 Celica with a 22RE. He wanted $500 OBO for the whole car.

"209k on odomiter but new motor has been put in. no clue how many miles on new engin. not much though.runs good oil leaks, needs new gaskets. runs good. rear differencle bad howls after 25mph.

contact tj at 2067243905 can come take a look at it or email me an offer."

If all it is is a burnt valve I wouldn't even touch the bottom end. Have the current head rebuilt or throw a different one on it. It's a good time to swap over to the 20r head/intake for more power:redneck: (as long as it's a 22r that you have?)

bobbed- Its a 20R.

Just picked up the comperssion tester just need to wait for the rain to stop. ITs crazy stormy over here right now.

As for the motor. I'd like to get one brand new or just rebuilt. Trying to eliminate everything at once.

Just found out my window seal is leaking so I need to find some place dry so I can seal that up as well.

My uncle who the truck use to belong to has offered to help pay it. So I'm looking at my comparison prices.

New motor, rebuilt motor, or rebuild this one. What do you guys think? I know there is a place here in oregon that sells rebuilt motors in exchange for yours for a fairly cheap price but can't remember the name

I think my best option is to rebuild the top end. But I'm not sure what parts and what all I need to do this. Any help would be great?

Anyone know that company based in oregon that rebuilds the 20r motors?

Turned out to be a mixture of a bad coil and distributor.

Got that fixed but it was still running like crap. I couldn't figure it out myself and figured it was the timing chain. So I took it to a mechanic. Turns out it was the timing chain.

So I'll be getting that replaced in the next 1-2 weeks. Then it should run like a charm.:cheer: *knock on wood*

SWEEEEET!!!!!!!!!!!! Keep us in tune with the results.

I replaced my timing chain and what a huge difference that made. It actually sounds like it runs smooth on all 4 cylinders.
