4 or 5" springs?

http://www.pirate4x4.com/forum/showthread.php?t=321699 is some designs, I lack skills to build my own. Also too much lift can cuase issues with drive line, seems dual case, high pinion 3rd, single cardigan (sp?) shaft, and cutting to rotate axles are some of possible solutions.

this one compares frames. http://www.pirate4x4.com/forum/showthread.php?t=599542 The 85 and 86 FSM use different methods to measure frame. ie 85 uses the top of the frame rail behind the upward curve for the front axle/suspension. The 86 FSM uses an imaginary line. When I compared the two for a reference I used the body mount that is located above the rear spring hanger. Its located in the same location but I did assume this but the bodies are interchangible. I just had trouble imagining measurements upside down. It compounds my dyslexia.

Yeah I got called a nerd on another site today.

Axle location is not that big of an issue---because I will have to remove some off the ARB bumper as is.

with what I have seen of you building skills this shouldn't be an issue
then you could very the height for the terrain

fwiw i have a 92 pickup with 2wd fenders in the front. i run trail gear 3" springs with 35's with no fender modifications and dont rub at all. if i put 36's on it they may rub a touch but barely. if heights not an issue though, i would go 5"

I run 35x14.5 boggers on my 4runner with roughly 6" lift. Its a 1986. Only rubs at full lock and when full stuffed in the front and only then its due to not relocating the axle (coming in due time) and the tires being as wide as a ****ing freeway.

5" to play it safe, I have TG's 5" spring in my garage waiting to be put on and plan on running 37's or so with minimal cutting and extended wheelbase.

Why don't you ask on PBB Toy board? I'm sure they'll have helpful answers for you.:redneck:

And make sure to mention you want to use NWOR springs:fawkdancesmiley:

I remember when some of the Wattora guys did Chris's 4runner for him while he was in Iraq. I believe that they used 4" springs front and rear and it was a tippy SOB to drive although it was a newer gen so a bit heavier up top. If you are going to run a 35 I would stick with 4" max and maybe try to work in some kind of swaybar. Either that or run a stiffer front spring to keep the roll down on the road

Thanks for the input guys.

I am going to go with 5" springs. Sure it will be a lil top heavy but its not going to be a dedicated wheeler--just something cool the wife has wanted for a long time.

good choice, if it were a wheeler i'd say go 3" springs and make mods to fit 35's. should be cool, looking forward to seeing it done.

If she wants something cool to drive she needs a VW for a daily driver. :awesomework:

I think 5" might be higher than you think in the end result....:eeek:

It all depends on the thickness of Mrs.C's shoes. If her normal shoes have a thick soul the 5" by all means... if they are somewhat thinner.....better go with the 4" . Gotta watch out for the short ones ya know.:redneck:
