So I'm debating which way to go with a V8 swap. Obviously the advantage to the 4L60 is overdrive, with the disadvantages being cost, complexity, and not as strong as a TH400 (or much more expensive to build stronger). The TH400 is bullet proof, cheap to build, and just simple. My rig sees occasional road time, although not much. Cruising back and forth to work, occasional trip home from Little Naches, etc.

RPM's at max freeway speed of 70mph - TH400, 3260rpm. 4L60, 2445rpm

Personally, I think a V8 cruising at a little over 3k RPM's would just sound sweet, hahahaha.

Discuss.

700r4

Lowest 1st gear of an auto, 'nuff said.

best O.D.

Build it right the first time though...............................:awesomework:

yah, if you go with a 700R4 (4L60) MAKE SURE YOU USE THE TRUCK VERSION! I had a car version, which has a weaker bellhousing. Suffice it to say, the whole thing cracked through.

I think the stronger version is stamped with Version 'K'

when is the last time you needed an OD in an offroad rig, as far as low gear, deal with it in the transfer case or diff.

Go th400

I would agree, go with the TH400, I went with the 700r4, because that's what i had (also had a th400, but it was going to be more work to mate it to a np203 for my dual case) But the O.D. is nice for those of us that see highway trips to Naches and such.

I,ve got a 4l60e and my only complaint would be that it up shifts to quickly if left in drive on the road so I manual shift it in the top two gears.

you should be able to adjust that.... I know on the 700r4, left alone, that CAN be a bad thing for them....:eeek:

Your wisdom is Nada---you best not post on things you know nothing about.

John, a 4l60 can be built pretty tough but your not talking cheaply. Also, even built strong you are still working with a thinner and weaker case than a th400. Now granted you can somewhat overcome that by building a support off the back of the trans pan area.

I don't know about the 4L60, but the 700r4 you do have to adjust...

You adjust the throttle valve cable in or out to adjust the line pressure for harder/softer shifts.

That enough?

Actually, you are adjusting TP pressure(cable) to overcome governor pressure(change shift points to a point). TP pressure will bump up line pressure, but thats not the factor in shift points and is a very small factor in shift feel.

TH 400 you can get this>>> 3.00 low gear 1.57 second :awesomework:

You are correct my good man!!!:awesomework:
