Thanks, I will do some searching for a ## rather than bug him. Friend wants to see about flashing his stock 1500 for more oomph and better mpg if possible.

Justin @ blackbear done my 08 5.3 and i love it. he is the guy everyone truck forums use. i talked to alot of people on gmfullsize.com about him before i made my decesion. he's very good on these engines and sets them up different ways to suit your driving habits. also takes off how ever much torque management you want hell theres all kinds of junk on there he can mess with just call him or check out his website. 530-304-9934. www.blackbearperformance.com

What's this typically cost ? I've considered it a few times on my 1500 / tow rig. I love the truck but could certainly use the extra ooomph now and then. Its my DD so Im not looking to terrorize it or anything.

Mine was 500 from jims, for a tune reflash and harness cut down. I believe its 200-250 for just a flash.

That is a damn good price! My 5.7L from Fast Chips in Tulsa was like $350 just for the flash.

Anybody know about how much mpg you can get with the comp flash and how much power?

I get about 22 or 23 in my truck now and about 12 when towing with all the 8-4 cylinder mode stuff, but more is always better.

Running Premium (93) Id says 3-5mpg and about 35-45 horsepower. Completely guessing though, call jim and ask. Portfuel.com

I run the cheap stuff. My truck has all that E85 rating stuff on it that I could run if someone in AL sold it

for just a flash and wakup/milage tune I liked waitformeperformance. The guy is a tool when it comes to harnesses. broken promises etc, but on the flash he's fast and I've not had a problem. then again, certain people never had a problem with PORC. Luke had his 5.3 tahoe done it got 1.5 better and runs way better. It was $75 for the tune

my tune was like $200 or $250 from justin @ blackbear. he tuned mine for 89 but i just use 93 anyway. i also had him turn off the active fuel managment. i'm glad i did too and dont think i saw any difference in mpg i guess the way i drive it doesnt help fuel mileage anyway. i couldnt stand the 4-cyl mode with exhaust. very annoying. justin changed alot of stuff around on mine and the truck is actually quite a bit funner to drive now ;D

OK, so back on the subject of doing this for a DD / tow rig. My truck is an 02 1500 with a 5.3L I'd love to "tune" the puter for extra MPG and power but will not do it if there is even one down side or issue with dash light , reliability or any of that I wont do it. I likey my nice truck :dblthumb:

Do I have to send in my puter or something and my rig is down for X amount of day's ?

I dont know how all this goes, never done it so I have lots of questions and concerns and Im looking for details on the process. Thanks
