Very nice! Can i throw a few questions at you? :)

Estimate on your total cost?
Did you make your goal of 62"?
What tires and wheels you going to run?
Overall width goal?
What axles did you go with?
What is this going in?

Thanks!

Total cost is through the roof, especially with all the little stuff like machining costs, nuts, bolts, etc. rough guess? about $2k

62", yes. I don't have the long side assembled yet but all my measurements so far have been spot on. I'll take a final measurement once the long side is put together.

Tires - Goodyear MT/Rs, 37 x 12.5 x 15.
Wheels - Les Schwab steel special 15 x 8, 5 x 5.5, 3.75" BS
(see pic of rear below.)

Overall width - 62 + (8 - 3.75) + 2 more for sidewall = 68.25

Axles: stock chev stubs with Dutchman import alloy inners (31 spline)

This is going in my '95 ZJ that got rear ended two months ago. The last three feet has been chopped and I'm in the process of rebuilding - probably just some tube and some plate.

Overall width - 62 + (8 - 3.75 +2 x2) = 74.5 ;)

Thanks for the info. Hope everyone is ok. I lost a wheeling rig to a drunk driver, hit me head on on the freeway about 8 years ago.

heh, yep, 74.5 it is.

Head on, you're lucky. I can't imagine a head on at freeway speeds.

My buddy and I were coming home from Rimrock. Stopped at Elk Heights so I put my rain gear on (no doors.) Construction on the on ramp had no acceleration lane. I stopped, my buddy didn't. I took six stitches in the face but otherwise we were both OK. A big steel bumper on the back saved my dog's life.

I think your body fell off :redneck:

BTW good to see you making progress :awesomework:

Curious why you didn't go 35 spline? You now have shafts that are mail order only, or was it the added cost? Are you final assembling? if not I would definitely go for losing about an inch off the bottom of that sucker(my diff is 4 3/4" from the center line to the bottom, that's better clearence than a dana 30 and a PROROCK)

I didn't even know the difference between an H case and a B case, let alone that there were B and H cases, until after I bought the B case. Seeing as I couldn't find any used H cases for sale and Strange lists them for what? about $350, I figured I'd stick with the 31 spline. I've been running mail order only shafts in the rear for five years now with out breaking one so... Granted, I'm moving from 33's to 37's but I've been running 27 spline D30 stuff and I'm losing some weight at the same time and I don't drive with my balls. If I start breaking, I can always redo but I'm hedging my bets given the way I drive. I know its pretty minor and I'll probably never make use of it but I like being able to swap centers front to rear as well.

I wouldn't know where to begin shaving the diff. Got any writeups? Again, I've been running a full size nine in the rear for five years with 33's and that's not where I end up hanging up.

Fair enough then.

write up's??? shoot, I just drew a line around the bottom about where I thought I wanted it (pinion rolled up at ride height to keep the bottom flat with the ground), grabbed the plasma torch and went to town, I had an assembled dummy 3rd to form the new bottom around, and double passed everything along with welding the inside as much as possible. I know it's hard to do to a housing you've spent so much time and money on. The way I see it, it may have never held you up before, but it's a free mod, and there might be that one time you really wish you spent the couple hours in your warm garage building than an hour winching yourself out of some predicament.

So close! oh well that will work for me, when can i come by and grab it so you can get started on a 62"?

heheh. As soon as you come up with $5k cash!

I wonder where that 1/4" went? I can account for 1/16 or 3/32 maybe but rest of it stumps me. Probably bad math somewhere. Oh well, as long as my shafts don't bind (and they don't!) I'm happy.
