I was thinking about getting a msd 6al for my 22r with carb. I can get it for a good deal.
Just looking for some feed back. Pros and cons. Or should i just sell it if i get it. Has anyone done this.

Thanks

Its not going to be an improvement over the state of the art toyota ignitor.

If you had an old dodge or ford with a crappy stock module then great upgrade. Or if you needed it for its revlimmiter then sure it would be an upgrade. But its not much of an improvement over the OEM toy and chev HEI ignitions.

But I doubt its as tough as the OEM toyota stuff and is more complexe for no gain.

If you want to wire something that will be a gain then swap in the efi stuff and call it good.

I have a blaster ss coil and msd6a on my dd that came with an engine I had in it once and it made a big difference in starting time (fewer revolutions before start) and a bit more power in the upper rpm's. Would I buy it new and replace the stock stuff? No, but if you can get used stuff cheap go for it. :D

I noticed a big difference running the MSD box over the toy igniter. Plus I went thru 2 toy units and my MSD never failed me.

Also if you run a stock toy tach you will need an adapter (#8920) to make it work.

But either 6a or 6al are both good durable units...
