7.3L Powerstroke tuner?

I have Swamps stage 1, single shot injectors as well as their 6 position chip to go along with it. Also have 4" straight exhaust from turbo back, the wicked wheel 2 from diesel site (got rid of the surging and gives more boost), bellowed up pipes (my stockers were falling apart, 6637 air filter, RiffRaff Fuel rail crossover, High pressure oil crossover, plenum inserts, and new intercooler boots. I also have a BTS valve body in my stock trans...which probably wont last long if I keep driving around on the race tune...LOL All that stock stuff was worn out! so, why put stock stuff on, when you can upgrade for just a little more money, especially when it will last longer. As for the mileage, it was hard to tell the gain I had, since my stock injectors were bad when I bought the truck. I think I getting around 18-20 on the highway, if I can drive like an old man....I also have 35s on my truck, wish it had something smaller, but it was already lifted when I got it.
I have been very happy with the Swamps stuff and good people to deal with as well.....nothing against Full Force, since I have had no dealings with them and didnt know there was someone on here that works with them at the time of my purchase....
Also, if you plan on a tuner definitely get some sort of monitor or gauges. I monitor everything with the Edge Insight, very helpful and can check/clear codes as well. I do have a manual boost gauge as well as a boost fooler, since the tuner and new wheel put out more boost, it will cause the ECM to throw an over boost code and when it does that it will defuel the engine...

Either way, avoid "downloaders" at all cost such as the edge/bully dog ect. He will be way happier with a chip!

Absolutely. On my 96, I experienced high EGTs and coolant temps with downloader. Swapped to a 6-position chip and it was awesome.

Benefit to chip, you can get stock setting, hi idle, and several levels of power.... High idle was awesome for summer and winter for getting the cab cooled or warmed.

I never would have thought I would want it, but I sure wish I had a "drive-thru" tune now. The single shots and straight exhaust are a little loud in the drive-thru.

Damn right they are!!!! I have considered sending it back in to add that tune. I have to shut the truck off to order and to pick up! LOL

My truck struggled on the way out to KOH this year so much compressor surge on the hills pulling a buggy and rzr. As soon as I got back I ditched the bullydog programmer in favor of the ts chip from Full Force, got the WW2 and it is like a different truck.

Full Force for the Win!

Great info guys. I have a programmer on my 02 7.3 and it just plain stinks. I'll have to give Matt a call.

Glad this thread came up. Learned where some of my money will be going soon

Does anybody have any input on a "stock" TS chip vs one programmed by the guys at FFD?

I emailed them asking about that and what it would cost. I got a quote on what it would cost but no comment on if it would perform any better/differently than what I have now. Currently I am running a TS 6 position chip as you would get it from them. It is stock, 50hp, 75hp, 100hp, 140hp and high idle. The truck is a 6spd if it matters. I have managed it eek out 20mpg highway with 285s and 3.73 gears, though I really need 4.10s for what I tow. I am more concerned with drivability/towing and power than I am MPG though.

I have a few options for what tunes we use, one of them being tuning from power hungry performance that I use with stock injectors, most anything else I use custom tuning from gearhead performance. To answer your question, both the above are better than standard TS tunes that were made 10 years ago.
