Looked kinda goofy when I tacked one in there like that. I will probably notch the hood out and tie the top piece into the front shock hoops when I build them.
A little update...been out with the rig twice now. Upgraded to the Trail-Gear Full Hydro Steering Pump and a bigger -10AN feed line from the reservoir. Makes a world of difference. It will steer these 42's now with one finger at idle. It cruises through town pretty damn smooth too. The hydro is pretty predictable and not too quick for hotlaps to the bar. The truck needs a sway bar in the back, but I'll get to that. For now it works well. Just leans like a mofo in the corners.
Front end "done"...still need some tube caps and gussets.
New auxiliary fuse panel
New switch panel with room for when I add the electric fan and a power outlet for the Ipod
Winch is wired in too. Hid the solenoid box under the hood and ran the controller into the glove box.
I feel a lot more comfortable with all of the lights and accessories on their own circuits now. The engine bay and battery terminal is cleaned up too now that it doesnt have 40 different connectors and in line fuses running through there. Except the winch leads replaced that old glob of wiring with a new one.
Front shocks are in finally and the propane tank mount is mounted in the bed. No more ghetto ratchet straps and prayers keeping it in place. Worked well for a shakedown but with Harlan this weekend I wanted something more solid. Cruised it up to the carwash to de-grease everything from where I had been chasing leaks, plumbing and bleeding the brakes/steering. Just gotta take it out to Naterade's and go over all of the suspension and driveshaft bolts.
Probably going to build an engine cage under the hood and tie that and the front bumper to the shock towers to stiffen everything up.
Took the truck to Harlan for AFD Crawl and gave it a good beating. Overall it goes like a SOB. Only found a few times I would like a 4.7 case but it gets it done as is.
Came home and bent some tube to get rid of the bed a fix some junk I bent in lions den when my no drivin ass decided to get wedged between some big ass rocks. :homer:
Still have a little left to do to finish up the back of cage.
Have some shock rebuild kits here and new oil for the airshocks. Going to set them back to factory levels and rebuild them before I get to tuning. Some poly motor mounts should be here today since I killed another set of chained Stockers at Harlan. Just need to rig up some bump stops out back and it should be ready for another beatdown.
Rebuilt the airshocks and added some of Sway A Way's Shock Shaft Bumpers while they were apart. Added 1oz more oil than factory levels and left the shims alone for now. Going to start the air at the 200psi factory level and go from there. Wanted to start with a clean slate before really tuning the guts of these things. However now that I know how easily they break down I will be more motivated/less intimidated at tuning them one afternoon.
Sway Bar Fab - 4wd mini truck torsion bar that has been cut and sleeved with 1" 1/8 wall tubing. Sleeves welded just inside the splines to fit the 1" bore Energy Suspension bushings. 2" x 1/2" Cold Rolled for the arms. 5/8ths heims connected by a 16" circle track car tie rod for the links to the axles.
Finished Product...
Skinned the back of the tubing with an old 3rd Gen SR5 tailgate that was in the scrap pile. Wasnt rusting in just the right spots to leave the handle intact lol
