It is going to be off the hook crazy with all the new rigs that are coming together for this years race. I can't wait to see these guys torture what they spent all fall and winter designing. Across the country there are outside the box buggies with designs that are not traditional at all not to mention the rigs that have already been tested and improved just for this race. Which rigs will hold up and so far which is your favorite? Let's see what ya think!

Randy Slawson's Bomber Buggy is going to be hard to beat. But you are right it will be fun, I cant wait.
See you there

Randy's buggy is badass, sounds like he knows the hammers well, and most importantly he is already finished and has plenty of time to test it out. I'm afraid a lot of the buggies won't be finished early enough to really test them out. But you've always got JR, who has made sure this time that the rig will hold together. And Campbell, or Tracy Jordan, could throw together a XJ the week before the race and still do well.

Bigelow and Haines I'd say have a good chance too.

I'd love to see Woodlee go out there with a complete new design for him, and earn some respect in the desert.

If the race is 100 miles, like is rumored, the key is going to be holding the rig together and keeping your cool. I predict over 50% won't finish.

I bet Lippy Larry doesn't completely half of the course, any takers?

I think you're totally right about some builds are way late if they want to be competitive. Why spend so much money on a build only to drop the ball because of time management?

I may be wrong but I remember needing months of testing not weeks to shake the bugs out. Its the not obvious things that will sink you

Larry will be there, probably with a rig that isn't complete again. Why didn't he just work out the kinks w/ his rig from last year, and get some fawkin seat time in it? Guess that would make too much sense, and not a good enough story.

That's what I'm worried about with us. Fully torn down and rebuilt on every level. Hope it all goes. There will be lots of attrition due to rush builds.

Yeah talking to "X" he just wants to be able to finish. I was happy to hear that and hope we can pull that off. That'd be amazing for no seat time

I agree with what was said about Randy being hard to beat. He's been spending ALOT of time out there and has shaken his rig down and out already... did I mention he has been spending alot of time out there.

He's favorite to win IMO. But one never know's there's alot of quality rigs and drivers waiting on a mistake or a break to happen. thumb.gif

Im goin with Tom Wayes. He drives like he is from the South and knows the territory very well.

I see a lot of big name guys making poor showings because they are rushing builds and have zero shake down or seat time. You can do that with a chasis you build every week, but with a new design rig not so much. I see lots more spots open in the LCQ, which is good for me :flipoff1: Randy and JR will be right there. This being an endurance race rules Wayes out, he only knows one speed.

The real question should be how many rigs from the race will the person that started this thread buy in 2009. :flipoff1:

JR spent alot of time out there last year also. And Randy had a buggy he had alot of seat time in also last year. Shannon is gonna be hard to beat though. I was told he has 3 rigs in the race and unless he gets his new onw built he wont have anything to drive.

And I was told that there are 3 people that are already out of the big show, so 13 spots as of now.

I think all the new builds are kinda nuts, even for guys that own fab shops. I know there are so many rigless right now that are just getting started. People like Cottin, Dermo, etc. Heck half the builds that are started are so over the top I don't see them being done without cutting major corners. This is not some 2 minute rock race heat, this is a 75+ mile endurance race. I think people are showing the race no respect by starting last minute builds and brining untested and unfinished rigs to the race. I see a lot of spots opening up in the LCQ which is fine by me

If a last minute build means no respect for the race...

..Shannon got the last laugh.. :flipoff1: :flipoff1: :flipoff1:

Yeah that was last year and not many folks knew much about this race. Even at that, Shannon did do some pre-running in the Arizona desert and had some seat time. Plus he has build that same car 20+ times, so not really a new design there. He was talking a lot about an IFS car this year, and I don't see that really working out. I just don't get waiting till the last minute to build something for this, they have known for over 5 months who the field was....

I think the next few weeks is when you need to wrapping up a build, not starting one. That gives you a good month to test and tune. More time to practice and tune items is always better in an endurance type race. I think the guys that are wrapping up now, like Doug, will have a great chance. Plus he has a real motor now :flipoff1:
