Matt O. said:Yeah that was last year and not many folks knew much about this race. Even at that, Shannon did do some pre-running in the Arizona desert and had some seat time. Plus he has build that same car 20+ times, so not really a new design there. He was talking a lot about an IFS car this year, and I don't see that really working out. I just don't get waiting till the last minute to build something for this, they have known for over 5 months who the field was....
I think the next few weeks is when you need to wrapping up a build, not starting one. That gives you a good month to test and tune. More time to practice and tune items is always better in an endurance type race. I think the guys that are wrapping up now, like Doug, will have a great chance. Plus he has a real motor now![]()

for the first part, well no ****. No worries man. I honestly feel that with a half a week shake down out there a good driver/builder can find the bugs (reall good builders don't have major bugs like , oh, I need to move this chassis bar, and good is where I put adam) and be ready to race. a novice like myslelf, I'd need quite some time for shake down. no worries man. when your bling motor blows in prerun you can have my stock spare 5.3 I'm bringingWoodlee said:I am the guy that falls in to ever one category of fail there is. I have never been to the Hammers, my rig is new, and I am not even a racer.
I knew ALL of this when I sent in my application, and all I have to say to that is I will do my best to go out there and compete in this race.
I have been ridding since I was 14 years old and I know the feel of a vehicle. I know when I am hurting it and how to find a sweet spot that the vehicle like to run at. I know that I can over drive any thing that I have sat in to the point of tearing it to pieces as well as how to be conservative enough to limp home trying not to break the tire wire holding some thing broke together.
I am going to dive my own race and I am going to drive it as hard as I can. I hope to be on pace with the rest of the guys in the real race. I f I get left in the dust with a broke down piece of crap I will not be happy. I am not going for the fun of the event. I AM GOING TO RACE !!!!! I will have the time of my life out there but I am going with one thing in mind.I want to run hard and fast. I want to take a dependable rig out there and show those guys what some one from the east coast can do. I want to gain the respect of some west coast fabricators the I respect so much. I am on a mission. I will not rest or relax until after the race is over.
Now the biggest part of what has driven me so hard is that I will have a great buggy that I finally get to keep. Win or loose all of the work will be worth it.
I think a lot of people forget that after KOH there are going to be a ton of guys out there with some of the baddest trail rigs on the planet ridding around and having fun. A KOH is by far a better trail rig than an ex competition buggy. There will most likely be some storage along with some comfort built in. They will more than likely ride better and perform awesome.
I have talked with a lot of the builders that are building for this race. All of them are in the same state of mind that I am in. We all had a dream buggy in our head that we wanted to keep. KOH just made us get off our asses and get it done. Notice most all of the builders that are building KOH buggies are keeping them. I always figured I would start a buggy and it would probably take me two years to get it done. Well I started my buggy on Sep 16 and I hope to drive it by Jan 16. That is four months to get it done. There is no way I would have put this much effort into anything else if it hadn't been for this huge dead line.
All in all I am so glad I got picked to race this race. It made me look at my self in the mirror and say it is time to start walkin and quit talkin. I don't have to talk about when I get my buggy done, or I wish I had a rig of my own. Now I have one and it is all because of KOH made me quit making excuses about money and time.
I only have one question? What will everyone talk about after the race??????
