Re: Anyone Tow with an E350 van???
I used to work in a Ford service dept. We saw about 50 6.0's in for repair for every 7.3. In the 3 years I worked there we probably flat-out replaced 10 6.0's under warranty. We also had about 3 vehicle buy-backs that occured under Lemon Law due to issues that multiple Ford Corp. Engineers could not resolve with the 6.0's. We never replaced a 7.3 warranty or not. Everyone knows the 6.0 was a huge flop. The unacceptable warranty repair costs were why Ford dropped it and also why Ford is dropping Navistar. (Although, IMHO, the problems weren't Navistar issues, they were Ford issues.) Overall though the 6.0 is a much less heavy duty engine than the 7.3. Virtually every component is smaller and there are a lot more plastic parts inside a 6.0 than a 7.3. Neither compare to a Cummins IMO though. Everything in a Cummins is gihugic compared to everything in a Ford. The Cummins will smoke a Ford, too. Problem with Dodges though is that everything on the interior falls apart. That and their older auto trannies didn't last. (Not sure about their new ones, they're suppossed to be a lot better.) For that matter, before '03 Ford's auto trannies didn't hold up either. Ask any diesel forum and they will all say that a "Cummins is the best hot dog you can get in a moldy bun."
Ultimately though, I wouldn't hesitate for a second to get a 7.3, especially instead of a 6.0.
And just to let you know, I'm not a fan of any of the brands, but if I were to buy a new truck today it would probably be a Ford. If I could make my own truck it would have a Cummins engine with an Allison trans and a Ford body/chassis.
