What makes me even more uke: is these people pulling thes guns off the shelves. Cheaper than Dirt has suspended all firearm sales indefinitely, ****'s sporting goods have pulled all "military style" guns, and even some of the Wal-Marts are doing the same!

Heard all of that today as well as Academy Sports. Sounds like somebody knows something that I don't

a good weapon to get is the colt m22 its a 22 cal and built just like the m4 but if you want the knock down power get a buchmaster ar/m4 in 6.8 spc its the same platform as any m4 but that round is brutal

Buy something that has a common round, not a special round! And to the government you are buying a pistol or a long gun. The gun stores are the ones with the records as to who bought what... The whole situation sucks

Same exact rifle I'm looking at getting day after Christmas! Do have one question though (since WalMart doesn't like you breaking down their rifles in the store), are the internals just like an AR, minus the trigger mechanism and burst selector? One of the wally world AR22 types has a dummy charging handle molded into the composite upper.

OK.... I was going to bed and skimmed over this thread and could not help my self. I had to get out of bed to get to the PC..

Before I start, let me tell you a little about my self. I was in the Military for 4 years 8 months and 13 days... (not that i was counting) Not a long time to most standards, but almost 3 years of it was in Iraq. My main weapon was a COLT M16A2 Rifle. I love the AR platform weapons. They are a lot of fun to shoot and extremely dependable for the buck! I am pro-gun and own quite a few firearms myself. I to have a nice little SHTF collection, But it does not include an AR. The AR was not designed for the kind of use that it is being used for today. It is primarily a long range weapon and is utterly useless in close combat. While it has a fair amount of firepower it is still not that powerfull. I realize that the M4 has brought the size down a lot, but it is still to big. In my opinion a BULLPUP style weapon is a much better choice for a doomsday type scenario.

OK guys, this is where you are going to start to hate me... I believe in my experience there is no reason for a common citizen to own an assault weapon. They are designed for one purpose and one purpose only...to kill and kill well Before you crucify me allow me to say one thing. I completely support your right to own one. It is your choice and your right to protect your self and your family. This is just my opinion. The main reason I feal this way is seeing all these weekend warriors with a godzillion BS gadgets strapped to the side of there AR style weapons...what a joke... The point of an AR is to be rugged and strong. You should be able to drop,throw,dunk,sink,bury,sling, and damn near blow up a weapon you depend on for you and your family's protection. All of these yuppie AR owners with this JUNK hanging off there rifles crack me up. I challenge anybody who thinks otherwise to go to a range that has REAL 300 meter targets and shoot at them with your fancy sights... You will be embarrassed. If you truly want to have an AR for some kind of apocalyptic event, then you need to be able to battle field sight it and shoot it 300 meters with open peep sights. I prefer a fixed full size stock on a AR based rifle. You should be able to beat someone out of submission with your rifle and not have to worry about parts falling off..

I prefer a 22lr. Ammo is cheap and available. I can pile 10000 rounds up in a corner and my check book wont feal it! I have consolidated my guns so I am not strung out finding 20 different types of ammo. I am down to 5 different calibers and it is great.

For the record I do have one stupid gun .50 desert eagle completely dumb and useless unless shooting at body armor..It sure is a blast though!


Again, I completely support your right to have an AR, when the secret service puts down there guns I will put down mine.

I prefer the classic "m16" look with the handle top rail, full shroud, tall peep sights, etc.

I'm "storing" my FIL's guns since I have a gun safe and he had some contractors remodeling his house (a year ago... pretty sure i've inherited some guns)

and i've got his Colt in this style. I like it a lot more than the M4 style S&W MP15 "tacticool'd out" that I used to have...

of course, I may be "old school" with guns. I have a tendency to like the "orignial" version of most guns.

My favorites are a 6" full lug barrel S&W 686 .357, 336 Marlin lever action, Glock 17, any staight bolt mauser rifle, reminton 870 (short action), and the only real newer development in pump guns, Benelli Nova

I like your style.. You seem practical and simple. Two qualities that are hard to find these days.. I am with ya on the 686. Probably one of the best shooting pistols I have ever had the pleasure of owning. I just traded mine off and miss the heck out of it. I am currently looking for a Glock 17 as well.

I'm not really sure about the internals, I do know the only tactical .22 that our local Walmart carried was a Mossberg and I would get the Smith and Wesson M&P 15-22 over that Mossberg any day of the week. Mossberg is cheaper for a reason. The carrying handle to my knowledge, doesn't come off...which makes accurate distance ranges vary when using an optic since it's mounted higher off of the barrel (main reason I like Flat top). M&P 15-22's hold their value and will EASILY outsell the Mossberg look alike....so you can always get your money back out of it when you're done playing with it. And as far as burst selector, most of your civilian AR's only have a "Safe" and "Fire" mode. I'm not sure about other states, but you have to have a class 3 license to own a fully auto AR, which would then get into the platforms that have the burst selector including fully auto and 3 round bursts. Which would be cool as hell. BUT you can just buy a Slidefire stock and put on a semi auto one and DO WORK SON!

686 is the only gun I'd never part with.

Close second is 336 Marlin in .35 Remington. Open sights. Lots of practice with it. It's a brush busting hog/deer stomper. I'm a fan of the .35 Rem cartridge. Although it isnt' a very common caliber... I have a Wincheter 30-30 for a "knock around" gun/cheap new shooter introduction plinker/SHTF deer gun-sniper rifle... lol

I was looking for a Glock 17 used preferably gen 3 earlier this year after my house got broken into and my gen 3 Glock 22 was stolen. I really wanted a 9mm over the .40 that was stolen, for the cheaper ammo and 2 rds of extra mag capacity, but could not find a deal in one used. I found another mint gen 3 Glock 22 with nightsights and ended up buying it and carry it with me everywhere I go.

I don't disagree with anything you stated in that long post and yes, some people do take it overboard when tac'n their rifles out....but really a foregrip bipod, scope, and led light is all I want on a weapon. A light is the handiest thing that can go on a weapon imo. I use my led light on my Glock EVERY SINGLE night when I get home from work. I go into my house with the light on, gun drawn, and check every room in the house. Can't break myself from doing it. I live alone and that break in made me paranoid as hell about that mess.

Agreed... But it's based off the AK design.. At home a tactical shotgun is hard to beat. My saiga-12 is mainly for fun, the Remington 870 with a cut down 18" barrel, pistol grips and extended mag tube is hard to beat.

I've already got a high cap Glock for close range in teh house bizness, and a shotgun loaded with 3" 00 buck sittin' on ready as well. I want a versatile tactical rifle. I'm still trying to talk myself into dropping the money on one by weighing out every pro and con. Colt mentioned a bunch of facts about the AR platform being not practical for civilian use, but seeing as how I have the close range weaponry **** on lock, I think an AR M4 style will be a perfect addition for what I want. It's obviously a dependable mid-long range rifle, also doubling as a decent up close and personal weapon. My main thing is high capacity and firepower. I had a Hi Point 4095 carbine one time that shot .40 pistol cartridges but the mags only held 10 rds and there were no extended mags offered. Also a .40 pistol cartridge fired from a carbine only travels around 1100 fps vs. the 900 fps from a standard full size handgun. Not really the firepower I want in something like that, that's what I have my Glock for.

Idealy, I can't think of a better high capacity / high firepower gun than the AR15 (from my knowledge of guns anyways). I wouldn't mind having a Kel Tec Sub 2000 that folds up and shoots pistol cartridges, just for the pure fact that you can get one that accepts Glock mags....so I could interchange magazines with my Glock and buy the extended high capacity Glock mags...not sure what the high cap .40 Glock mag is, but the 9mm ext. Glock mag is 33 rd I believe. Still not the firepower I'm looking for though....not that I'll ever need it, more of a better to have it and not need it, than need it and not have it thing.

Plus I'm a gun enthusiast anyways so I'm naturally attracted to cool guns, not solely only for the purpose they serve.
