Auto tranny temps

My first pick would be in the pan in the side port, but otherwise in needs to be from the tranny to the cooler, after the cooler is a false rep of what the tranny is running at.
As others have stated :;

Not true--the fluid from the cooler is coming right from the pump and the temp you would see is whats going to the valve body/clutch's...

If thats what you think than why did you ask... anyhow

If thats the case than it would have 500psi in the outlet line, it doesent, its 7to14 psi. the fluid is spent fluid off the clutch packs. Like I stated the best place is the pressure tap port in the trans..

OK .. I'm done

Because it makes for some good info :flipoff:

I am no tranny guy so I could be off base here but from what I remember when I was trained on them back in the day the fluid went thru the cooler before it hits the important internals. As for 1500 psi--- what tranny do you hear hitting those kinda pressures? Most of the gm stuff hits maybe 400psi at the max...

I agree that you should measure Engine temp at the source but an auto tranny has no thermostat to regulate the overall temp. It relies on the fluids ability to carry the heat away from the transmission to the cooler.

If I had only one guage it would be in the pan near the fluid pickup if possible
This would give the best overall reading of the system as a whole.
Methinks I'll stick with my manuals, autos make my head hurt. :redneck:

I use to think that way, I believed manuals were the best.... I would never go back now
