Automatic transmission advise needed...Bad

Have you bothered to check the modulator line yet? Could have been fixed by now and you could be wheeling it right now.

You must have years in the industry to know such a basic and simple fix.

Who knew carpenters could diagnose tranny probs!:haha::haha::haha:

Quote TooRisky- (Is the vacum leaveing or entering the transmission ???)

vacuum comes from the motor. Interesting--typicly you don't even get it into 2nd...

I had mentioned the modulator diophram might of failed you were correct in saying it wouldent get in to 2nd. It would also suck in transmission fluid to the engine (vacum entering the transmission) I was a little drunk and had not elarobrated that if its cracked line or just a worn spot on the line that the increase of vacum during a hard deaceleration would cause thoes spots to also fail (vacum reduction to the modulator)and by only reducing the vacum to the modulator by a few psi it would be more noticable at speeds were vacume is lower then the 15-20 psi it is at slower speeds and normal acceleration.

In my experience it would shift into 2nd with some extra RPM (governor) but not into 3rd. if it's not shifting into 2nd the valve is sticking or the exhaust hole in the VB is plugged

Any broke fawker thats beat/abused and neglected a few th350s knows this.:redneck:

Any good dealer tech would suggest tearing it apart before checking the basics.

Well there is a very reputable transmission shop called "Parkland Transmission", I talked to Bob and he said it is probably an easy fix...Either a vacuum line came off or is cracked and to fix it myself (cool)...or that the governor is stripped and the unit needs replacing ($60.00)...

I think what ever I do the tranny needs to have the filter changed and flushed the tranny flushed ($109).

So if the planets are all aligned right I may get off lucky money wise.

I will let you all know the out come.

Steve
Watch out. I do not know if this shop is under the same management as it was in 1993. I followed by brother in law as he drove my x-wife

No--a good tech would get the custemers complaint, drive it and then evaluate the next step...

The question is what could be the problem...there was not any pre problems like slipping ect, the fluid did not smell of urnt tranny...and it revs up like maybe the linkage was F'ed up but I still had, 1st, possible 2nd, neutral, reverse, and park.

And to add--here is the part I musta missed and agree on everybodys conclusion a vacuum or modulator issue...
