Beadlock Fasteners

It doesn't matter--all the ring does is hold the bead. And you have to remember HOW many bolts are there working against sheer...

Thats really the question.

The bolts really aren't in shear, they want to pull apart (pull the heads off).

I've just heard folks say that they use grade 5 because of that reason, the 5's have a little give in them whereas the grade 8 remain rigid and the heads will pop off.

Please correct me if I am wrong.

Yes and No, grade 5 will give a little.

BUT do you know how much MORE force it takes to pop a Grade 8 bolt, ALOT.

I can't remember figures, the grade 5 will give but it will still break after that point, the breaking point of grade 8 is much higher.

Bead locks are only torqued to about 10-15 ft/lbs, so the stress on them is little.

they'll both give a little, of course grade five will give first. Sheer strength is broken down into deformation(permanent) and actual breakage, I believe 5 is 120,000 per square inch and 8 is 150,000, correct me if I'm wrong.

Grade 5 is just fine Karl.

The radial loading of the fasteners is dispersed among the number of said fasteners...16-32-24...how ever many "bolt" beadlocks you end up buying/making.

As mentioned you are only really walking them down in a radial and then criss-cross pattern till you hit a 15 - 30 ft/lb loading.

I wonder how many people commenting on this subject even have beadlocks....:;

I've used both. It's probably not an aplication where it matters too much.

I have broken heads off of grade eight beadlock bolts, but it was after many years of abuse (grinding against rock trees etc.)

I still use grade 8, but change em out after a couple of years.
