Best winch for the money

I bought a Warn M8000S for my new build. Had a Ramsey 8.5E on my old rig and it was strong and reliable but slow. I think both of them are still American made.

M8000 has a slightly more powerful motor than a 9000 with more gear reduction. I've never understood why its rated less than the 9000 because of that. It will be a little slower but they go pretty cheap used as no one seems to want them. Everyone wants the 9000 which inflates their prices.

I have the M8000 for my YJ and love it. It needs a rope on it since I ruined the cable, but that'll come in time.

m8000 is a solid winch, had one for years and worked the hell out of it with no problems. the Warn Powerplant is a great winch w/ air, it pulled harder than the m8000 ever wanted to. The Powerplant is a little bigger but was priceless.

I wonder how the synthetic rope will hold up to the heat on my M8000S. I have used an XRC8 that was extremely difficult to free spool because of heat damaged rope.

Just ordered this winch from eBay for my 2500 Yukon XL. 17,000 pound pull with accessory pack for $475 shipped. We'll see how it does. I ordered some synthetic line to go with it.

Looks remarkably like this 15,000 pound winch from Smittybilt for nearly $750 on eBay:

Why would heat damage cause difficult free spool unless you were down to the bottom 2 wraps? If it was that bad.....

Bet there was a different reason for the free spool issue. That or the rope was so damaged I would be scared to use it!
