Bolt on Stickers

where would you make your "relief cuts" to start working the ends of the hood down and around the ends of the CJ grill?

i have to make up an inch on each side, meaning the CJ grill is an inch narrower on each side.

i am thinking 3 or 4 cuts above each headlight start working the metal and weld it up and clean up with a little bondo.

thoughts???

other than starting the CJ grill, i started working the bad side of the hood with body hammer/dolly a little

The curve looks ot match the ends so why not just cut the grille and add one grill bar? That would make it match.

??????

ya i was thinking that as well, dont have another CJ grill, dont know if i can get it to look right with flat sheet metal as the bars are turned inward on the grill.

Side note about using mud up here Kyle, dont use it. It has a tendancy to crack in the winter here, just look at the crap the PO used on my fenders. Everyone I talk to up here says to use fiberglass. Now if you get out of here prior to next winter it wont be an issue.

Fiberglass is worse than bondo to use on metal.

Polyester fillers are menat to stick to metal if used in THIN amounts. Thick filler will fall out no matter where its used (temp).

All the new cars in your drivway and on base ALL have bondo/mud in them. EVERY one of them. Is it falling out of your new truck?

The key to bondo/filler is to use in moderation (less than an 1/8 inch). Dont apply in the COLD.

If its put on too thick or too cold it WILL shrink and crack.

Whoever told you fiberglass was better is a dumbass. Ever look at a hoodscoop that been glassed onto steel? They all come off eventually and show the bond.

It is a common theme on MUD where I spend a lot of time that you either replace the sheet metal, or use fiber glass to repair and not bondo. Glad you put a measurement in there for thickness, I am sure at -50 even an 1/8 of an inch has a really good chance to crack maybe not first season but hey I am not a body person. I do know that on average we have 130 degree temperature swing. I will test that out next winter for shits and giggles with my FJ40 build. I can only go by what I have seen work and not work up here in person and my cruiser has a **** load of bondo cracks on it..maybe I will section some of it off to do a study and see what thickness the bondo is. I will agree though that a think layer to even out the panel should not crack if done right. And no my 2012 Ram 2500 has not shown any sign of cracking.

Not worried about the mud cracking... I will only be here one more winter and the crawler will be parked in a heated garage. I will DD my other TJ in winter months

Ummmmm....... why not just use a TJ grill?
AND....... forget bondo and forget fiberglass. Pound it as straight as you desire, primer it, and paint it. Chicks dig dents. And it's for a wheeler, not a show-queen.

OR, just make the center grill opening wider. Then the sheet metal is in smaller pieces , AND It is easier to add the curved/structural nature to the adde3d pieces. With a ball peen even...

And besides.Who would want to add ANOTHER gril bar to the seven continents ... :fawkdancesmiley:
cheers

Because it needs to be pretty so I can put dents in it :flipoff:

Looks good brother! :awesomework: I am still a little upset that my NITRO gears and master install kits did not come with stickers...went from a 5 star vendor to a 2 star just because of the bolt on sticker bling not being there.

ya that happens... today i had to go buy 2 nuts for shifter/knobs that JB Fab left out. not a big deal but me thinks they drop from 8 to a score of 7.5 on the Vendor Swag Scale :haha:

Avanced Adapters and Teraflex still leads the pack of for low score. :stirpot:

Brown Dog MM's came in.... one sticker, i am appalled :eeek:

ONE sticker!!!!Thats bullshit!:haha::fawkdancesmiley:
:corn:

One sticker is one sticker more than I got from Nitro, and I bought two sets of gears and master install kits. Kyle got two stickers with his Nitro stuff, but he needed both to balance the Jeep..if he was one sticker heavy on a side it would cause drastic balance issues. :awesomework:
