building a 6.0 help!?!

Everything I have ever seen or read says you lose about 35-40% through the kind of drivetrains we run. Mine through a th350, np205, 4.56 gears, 44"boggers only made like 285Whp. That was on Lane's Dyno when he tuned it. I would like to see some dyno sheets also. I had my heart broke after the rebuild of my motor. I was expecting to see 400 whp or so. Lane directly told me it was a 485-500 hp motor but to bet on atleast 35% loss and 40% if I wanted to be honest with myself.
Mine is only a 2000 LS1 383 stroker and cam build.

You ran it on the dyno on 44 boggers!?

That's a good 15%, I can't imagine that boggers transfer energy to the rollers that well at all...

yep. I wanted as true numbers as I could get. LOL She ran first gear to 6300 RPM at 69mph. HAHAHA Wish I had a good video. Lane's dad was there when we strapped it down. He said "what you gonna do with this thing"? I said make some power. When I nailed it with complete open exhaust he decided he wanted to back up with them boggers on the dyno. :wtflol:

I would like to see someone run one on a chassis dyno then pull the motor and put it on a stand and run it ! Surely some one would donate some dyno time out of curiosity?

I have a video of mine on Lanes dyno but this forum wont let me post it mines a jeep on tons runs pretty dam good faster than you can drive it safe on the road ! I will see if I can post the dyno sheet tomorrow

This be right up my alley. I would love to know also. :****:

There is no such thing as a Vortex 6 Litre. A vortex headed motor was a 350 SBC 23 degree heads. A 6 litre is 366 CI with 15 degree heads. I am lost?

I bet you call the diesel thats in a Dodge "CUMMINGS". laughing1

hell, there ain't no such thing as a VORTEX at all. It's a VORTEC. (referring to the "vortex" created in the combustion chamber)

and yes, the 4.8, 5.3, and 6.0 truck motors were called VORTEC. Says so right on the engine cover.

But, yes, the original "VORTEC" was a 350 SBC.

Look at this page, has em all listed: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/GM_Vortec_engine

You might get 500 fwhp out of a bolt on 6l but your not gunna see it at the wheels... If i were goin to build one i would do a set of l92 heads and a decent sized cam in the mid 220s in the .600 lift range. and have it around 10.5-11to1 compression and it will make some decent power

I'm not sold on the L92 heads, unless you are spinning the hell out of it, 5500+ rpm all the time.

AGREED!!!! Cathedral port heads are the ONLY way to go on anything that isn't all out race... They have so much more useable torque and are more responsive

Your are right... I guess it depends on what kind of rig the 6.0 is being for.. for a bouncer i dont see the square ports being a problem because they are usually full blast and the l92s flow very well. Running the truck intake helps as well makes alot more low/mid power over the car intakes but in turn they dont look as good but a nice engine cover will fix that or run a aftermarket intake. I had a ported set of 243 heads on a lq4 that were shaved down 45 thousands with 11to1 and a good size bumpity stick it made all kinds of mid range power

That's what I like, a motor that will pull from a "lug" (sub 3000 rpm) and break all kinda ****!

A healthy midrange lets you gear a little higher to go from "crawlin" to "haulin" in 1-2 gears without having to spin the hell out of the motor (and the need for expensive forged rods, roller rockers, etc and other high $$ parts needed for a reliable high rpm motor)

You would be surprised how high you can turn a ls engine stock bottom end... i wouldnt go over 7200 though

You just described my motor. LQ4, with L92 heads decked .045, truck intake, 90 mm throttle body, good cam. Made 309rwhp on 40" Goodyear Mtrs. It's plenty strong on top. Could use a little more low-mid.
