Are you going to be doing this yourself? If so, please post up details. I have a small kitchen (11' of counter top total, all straight, no angles) in an "first time buyer" priced home and want to upscale the counter tops, but not go over the top with granite. Doing this solely for resale in a couple years time.

You do have that. I did mine myself and bought tile with a angle cut so when I placed them I had very small cracks. Then when I grouted them I made shure it was flush on every tile. Took more time but my tops are smooth. So if you want something fast and cheap dont do what I did.

Did my kitchen for little over $300. Got one top that is 10' and the other side is 3' on each side of stove.

Hard to say what it is per foot because every piece we looked at was a different price. Also have many discount stores around here where you can get leftovers stupid cheep.
All you do is lay down plywood then tile over that then run some nice wood trim around the outside.

Thanks, I have 11' or countertop is all, so this sounds like something to consider.

Make shure you have a good tile saw before you start.

Haley, what did you do at the sink? The narrow lip front and back would be a PITA I would imagine to keep the tile in place?

Also saw this for the front edge instead of wood.

Cut out the pieces. I have a real good tile saw that makes small cuts easy. It does take time but when your on a budget you can do work

That looks nice on the tile for edge, but I would think that it would be kinda a sharp edge.

If you think going around the sink whole was fun try your hand at making that tile hang around the edge. Not hard but it will seem like you need 8 arms to hold, tape, space, and all the other that goes with tile.

I would be more worried that edge tile would be easy to knock off over time if bumped enough. Sharp edge is also a good point with kids since this house is a typical family starter home, I just don't have a family. laughing1

Not solid concrete, Corian or something similar, they start with a template of your counter top and it has minimal seams. you can order it through the big box stores but i would find a local installer. Ours is 10 years old and shows very little wear, buddy of mine is an installer and says he can buff it out if it does show scratches or anything.

You better seal concrete and keep up on it or it will stain. Can't just toss kitty litter on it like you do in the shop :flipoff1:

I sealed mine the first time with Bees Wax and it lasted around 10 years before it started to look like crap. So I just grabbed my belt sander and sanded it off and have not sealed it again since and looks great. That's the good thing about concrete, you can just sand it and refinish it again. thumb.gif

Are we talking about the floors or counter tops? I agree about the floor, guess I never seen a concrete counter top :dunno:

concrete countertops are nice.. although all we put in our houses is granite. i love the concrete that ive seen in some custom homes ive inspected. dont see the granite tiles as much in newer homes.

i see mostly granite and solid surface.

nice thing about solid surface is no seams and heat resistance as well as the color will stay true. seen it installed many times and they can make some serious curves and lengths without a single seam.

Concrete is real nice if done right. It is really tricky to get it right and look good. Granite tiles are **** wouldn't waste my money. If granite is still a option for you then send me a pm and maybe we can work something out. I do countertops for a living and if you will install yourself i can probably fab them for you for cheap.
