THINKING of a trip to Canada. I've heard stories about getting across the border and back.

Those of you who have done it, what are the ins and outs of getting a truck/trailer/rig across the border and back. Anything tricky? What about an enclosed trailer with company lettering, etc. on it? Any different?

Thanks for any help.

John

You might get your balls busted, cuase they think you are on business. (company stickers and such)

Make sure you know where your going (they will ask, and will question it if they think its BS.) make sure your rigs are clean. No mud.

I get hassled more when i go wheeling, than i do when i tell them i' going for a meeting.

be honest with them, and say.. yes sir, no sir.

don't bring meat products.

Personal.

Then don't worry about the stickers/decals. Make sure you have current registration and insurance with you. And have fun.

Buddy of mine had his trailer licensed under his business. They wanted to see his log book, commercial endorsement and a bunch of other crap that he didn't have.

I'm so Money, they dropped their pants for me.:kissmyass:

I declined their advances......but even the offer of satisfaction, sure was nice.:cheer:

Just about getting trailers searched, having to unload racecars and going through ALL the cabinets, spare parts, etc... wasting hours of time. I've had a couple of drag racing friends have delays.

I've had lots of easy times, i've also had a few head aches.

I went up to go wheeling during the olympics and this was the worst inspection i got.

they opend up my rig, got under my super duty, popped the hoods... etc.

The one question i always get repeatedly asked is.

"is there anything your bringing to canada and leaving?"

Just answer honestly and you won't have isues.

Well, we don't go over with enclosed trailers. And we're usually in a (large) group, so the boarder officer just uses standard Stop procedure on us.

One thing to note: everybody gets all wound up about the crossing INTO CANADA. Let me tell you that getting back INTO THE STATES can be more of an issue.:; Have your ducks in a row and don't use the RV lane.......the RV lane has a much more strict Stop procedure.

What if my enclosed trailer has living quarters? I'd be an RV, right?

I think if you use the RV lane its xray no matter what but who cares if you have nothing to hide.
If your worried about it you must be hiding something and thats the way they will look at it.

John, just hide your stash in the boxed frame. Close it off, don't make it obvious. :redneck:

will they care if you don't have insurance on the rig on the trailer. i know you are supposed to have it to wheel, and also from what i understand if the tow rig is not yours you need a note from the owner stating they loaned it to you.

Never been asked about insurance. The only thing they have ever asked was about my truck. They said your not leaving that here are you?
