Chasis or parts?

Just looking for some opinions. I'd love to build my own chasis but after i buy a bender, notcher, tubing and more tubing to redo ****ups, it would certainly behoove me to just buy a chasis. And since money trees have gone extinct on my property I'm left with buying all of my parts as funds permit. Now, would yall say to get parts first or a chasis first? Personally, I'm leaning towards chasis for a few reasons. Mainly is motivation. It's easy to walk by a slowly growing pile of parts without much thought but a whole bunch of sexy tubing just does something for me. Also, chasis tech doesn't seem to change much whereas, by the time I'm in the market for any other part, the next big thing might be available. Just typing this all out i think I've convinced myself what i want to do but I'm curious what you guys think. Thanks

What kind of parts? Yota Sami tons??
 
Typical bouncer gear. Already have a pair of 14's. Would love to run a bigblock. But yeah, the parts list is gonna be huge.

To me it would be faster and easier to buy a chassis. Buuuuuut, I really enjoy working on my chassis. This will be my second one I've built. It's relaxing working on my junk.
 
I have all those tools and plenty of shop room and my next chassi will be purchased. I have built one and have nothing to prove so to save time I'm buying.
If you buy a chases have it on paper exactly what drivetrain you are going to run and don't move from that.
 
I know what you're saying. And i may build my own some day but at this point I'm at the stage where the sooner i get a running rig, the better. But after that, I'll probably slowly build a chasis myself and eventually transfer all of the parts to it. Maybe I'll regain my patience when it's warm enough to take the jeep out on the trails but as of now, I avoid cold weather wheeling like the plague. Been stranded in freezing temps enough to know I'm better off sitting here in my comfy house.

Not trying to hijack your thread but I have to ask. Won't work, what is up with that sweater in your avatar? Me n Kush are dying to know. Is that something you wore for real or a joke or what. I mean no offense but inquiring minds want to know.

Wanna donate some tools? Lol. Still doing some figuring on the drivetrane. For example, since I'm building my front 14 i can choose driver or pass drop. Which in turn will dictate what tcase. Or do i buy a case and build the axle to suit? I know, I'm a mess.

Lol. It was for a tacky sweater party and you wouldn't believe all the choices Kmart has in the ladies section.

not necessarily. I did just that (wrecked my truggy and took all the parts from it for the buggy) and there were many that would not work well, or at all, for the new chassis. building a chassis around all the current parts can be a pita and more time consuming. I'd get the chassis for the drivetrain you want to run and go from there.

not saying it's a bad idea, just want to think that one through since it could be more trouble than it's worth

I'm in the middle of my build now an I think that buying the chassis first is the way to go. Then u got somewhere to slowly put the parts u buy. I think that alone has helped me stay on track.
 
I say buy chassis they are getting cheaper than when first on the market I thought I saw one for 2700.00 on a Google search. I'm not a fabrication man I'm a bolt on kinda guy and heck even then I manage to screw that up....
 
This is a very tough question to answer! If a chassis motivates you then by all means go that route. Really try and plan out your buggy!!!! What case are you planning to run? You said your building 14's, driver drop 14 is easiest ti biild around if the starter is on the pass side. It also helps with drive shafts clearing the oil pan. But, if your looking to run a lowmax 205 then it changes things a bit:/

As others have said, nail down your drive train, and stick to it!!! This is kinda hard to do if your constantly searching for that really good deal.

Believe me, that reason alone has been almost all the argument I've needed. I'm an instant reward kinda guy.

I've noticed the price drop as well. Originally I would have thought building would be cheaper but but for what I've seen some go for it would cost me double that to build it myself. Seen some that I'd be more than happy to pick up in the 3-3.5k range.

This! I almost jumped on that atlas 2 in the for sale and even though I can build my front to suit, I feel drivers drop is most likely to suit the drivetrane/engine combo I hope to run.
 
And I really appreciate the input guys. I'd be slinging positive rep left and right but unfortunately, I'm apparently not qualified to make those kinds of decisions just yet. ;)
