Never been so I'm thinking of going this weekend with some OK locals that I think all have buggys

Is there a good place to park my toter and sleep in it with the generator running (loud)

How much fuel capacity will I need for a day/night of wheelin? Buggy has about 10gal capacity - do I need to get a can and bring it?

Food - If I go with water, ice and beer and cash will I starve or go broke?

Type of area/place/wheelin will it be? I'm askin if I should bring my wife and 8 month old in my 35" tired toyota to follow a buggy group, or if she stays at "camp" will she be safe/bored?

Small town, theres a pretty decent family owned "cafe" pizza place also as I recall or pizza at the gas station...whatever it was.

She will be bored , wheeling I dont think she and baby that small need to go with on that trip, your out a good ways from help on most every trail there.

Bring Gas, you never know and again your out a good ways on most trails. if your buggy isnt sorted out your gonna hate recon / trail repairs unless someone in your group doesnt mind a long recovery to Slim's

Its a real fun place to wheel, unique in the fact that its huge rock / creek bed . By huge rock I do mean HUGE rock. laughing1

Clayton Country Inn or Clayton Lake State Park. Both south of town. CCI is 1.5 miles and SP is 5.

10 gal will be fine.

Most places there you can get the yota near the hard stuff...feeder trails all around the hard ones.

Town is great and plenty safe.

There are several state parks, Clayton Country Inn, and the A&A has camper/trailer parking. There wont be many people up there now, you can probably pick your place and spot.
Bring a can if you're not going back to camp at all throughout the day and night. I have about the same capacity and never needed extra, we always went back to get food at some point.
A little cash and some beer and you will be fine. There is a liquor store for non 3.2 stuff as well. Couple of grocery stores and a few restaurants. The diner accros from the A&A isnt bad, thats where we always eat.
Hardcore wheeling, I wouldnt bring the wife & kid on the trail unless it was a quick trip. Quick trips are easy to do, the trail head is inside the tiny city limits. She will be safe at camp, does she have any transportation? Not much to do within walking distance, but some nice scenario that is a short drive away.

I have always stayed at the A&A, don't know much about the camping. 10 gallons is fine for the fuel. The Bulldog across from the A&A is nice, the Pizza joint next to it is nice except the owner hates David, John and myself because we kept coming in 15 minutes till closing for dinner :flipoff1:

The little burger place inside the gas/grocery store is nice also. Slim is the man for repairs, if you break bad on the trails he will come get you.

only transportation would be the yota but I wouldn't want here and the kid to be in it over 35ish
no doors, no roof, no windshield

they'll probably stay at home but I would like my wife to see Clayton before we mover further away from it and will probably not get another chance to wheel it. I don't think I'd want the yungin on the medium trails just yet either

hopefully my buggy is semi-dialed in

Need to rewire the fan and adjust the shocks but with it being cold and slower speed crawlin I think I'll be fine this trip

gotta add some antifreeze or windshield washer fluid to the tires with water though

I take it locals and cops are ok with buggies on the road? or how is that handled?

They are fine with it for the most part, although I heard they were looking for John's rig last time because he was minus a tail light or something. I have never heard of anybody getting stopped or ticketed.

Last weekend it looked like his jeep was back in a shed with some rockwell tires and wheels put on it maybe just to move it around. Hell, maybe it was not even his old one (that used to have the HAWGS). :dunno:
Slim is good for repairs though.

Oh yeah, if you go, you will be back. :eat:

Wichita does suck!!!!!!!! :flipgotcha:

Beyer - any of your crew gonna be there this weekend?

No. Some are going to CASS, but I will be in KANS-AZZ (Great Bend)! :drinkers:

I may not be wheeling for awhile as i sold my house and have ZERO leads on another one that meets my needs and the ol' ladies WANTS! pepper.gif

sounds like everyone is heading to a lake campground 6miles out of town? Clayton Lake State Park i assume?

we'll be leaving trailers there and driving to the trails so I think I'm really on the hunt for a gas can now - and a stick for checking level!

I'm also gonna pick up a siphon tube so I can steal gas from the larger fuel celled rigs if need be. I don't really want to have someone else carry fuel for me and then have it spill and or set their rig ablaze
