Clayton Questions ???

sounds like everyone is heading to a lake campground 6miles out of town? Clayton Lake State Park i assume?

we'll be leaving trailers there and driving to the trails so I think I'm really on the hunt for a gas can now - and a stick for checking level!

I'm also gonna pick up a siphon tube so I can steal gas from the larger fuel celled rigs if need be. I don't really want to have someone else carry fuel for me and then have it spill and or set their rig ablaze

You won't need extra fuel. Fill up going through town.

That is a pretty good haul from the State Park to Green Acres. I would leave it on the trailer and unload it at Slim's shop.

Yeah there is a lot behind Slim's shop, tow to there instead of driving 6 miles on the road. From slims you are 1-2 minutes from the drop box at the trailhead.

Is green acres where I'll be all weekend? or are there other spots we'll be hittting you think?

I'll be in my toter so I can keep the buggy as the back one and I'll have all my tools/spares and toyota at the trailhead
Will it suck driving that thing(toter) back and forth at night or thru town?
During the day I can just leave it and hitch rides for lunch and stuff but at night I'll want it back in the campground with everything - which means loading and tying everything down.

How long a haul is it to green acres?

Drop box? Donations I presume, what's customary so I can make sure to have enough on hand

Dude you are making it too damn hard. You don't want to drive a buggy 6 miles each way in November to get from the trails. Tow to the trail head at Slim's Shop, there is plenty of space to turn and back up. Drive 1-2 minutes to trail head which is $20/day to ride, he might drop it some since it is a holiday weekend. Trails are hard and you can always find something to break on, so you need to have a tow rig close. If you were staying at the A&A no towing is required, just a few more minutes to the trail head.

Green Acres is where it is is at. There are other trails, but I would not worry about them as they are farther away and not as good. Green Acres is plenty of riding for 3 days if you can make it without breaking.

I'm kind of a tag along on this trip and I've never been before so I'm trying to make sure that I don't impede the groups progress or flow of the weekend. they're all planning on setting up camp there and driving to trailheads. they'll be setting up camp and **** - where as my set up is pretty mobile, just hop in and go

Sounds like they'll all get there around noon friday and I'll be leaving Sunday morning so only really day and a 1/2 of wheelin - hope it's enough

You should park at Slim's. When you break, that is where you are going anyway.

It is hard to drive by, even if not broke to see what is going on. Might even see his 10 year old on the drag 4 wheeler, no helmet of course, Slim style.

so green acres is the place to be!

Hopefully that's were we'll be wheelin
are the other trails in the area good/worthwhile? or should we try to committ most our time to the acres?

Mr. Freilings is cool as well, but it is about 10 miles North of town.

here's the few pics I took - http://s29.photobucket.com/albums/c291/91blaze/clayton%20OK%202008/

It was hard trying to wheel and take pics in a single seater with no place to put the camera

Thanks for the advice guys, the drive on the road was no way to do it from the state park. The Clayton lake state park was beautiful but I had a REAL hard time navigating the toter in there at night with the trees and such.

We only went to Green acres and did alot of trails Friday and then got a late start Sat because of a guys wheel fallin of the night before we wanted to make sure his lugnuts were properly seated.

We didn't do much night wheelin and i wasn't used to that but I guess it was good cause I went with 5 lights and none worked! I did do Jeffs ledges in the dark with no lights though and it was a bit weird, especially never having been there before.

Always loved this "Toyota" Saw it on one of my first trips to Disney when my junk was a 4runner

he had problems with keeping the lugnuts tight on those wheels
Lost 1 friday night, they retrieved it and reinstalled and 20yds later it was off again??

We ground down a socket and a lug wrench Sat morning to make them fit in the wheels and get a proper torque on the lugs

and I bet he wasn't on kmc's and krawlers then, they didn't exist. I love evolutions
No, it was owned by a guy with some sort of disability with his arms, it was on tons and 38SX's back then and had some cool tool boxes for the bed. I helped stack to get him through some of the rock garden, he kept hanging that 14B up with the tiny tars. I can't find the pics of it I posted on PBB a while back

trails were awesome, they looked impossible but were just right in the difficulty for our group

from the trails I remember, C+H, KT's climbs, green mamba(all the way?), wet and wild, bounty trail, redneck millionaire, jeff's ledges, cakewalk

I know we didn't get to gobblers knob or middle slims slope due to time and difficulty

I think I liked the bounty trail the most from what I remember, redneck millionaire was good but I was cold and our group was in a hurry so we didn't take all the hard stuff
