Clueless and lazy, need input

Well, to further add to my embarassment:

I got underneath today to put the front shaft in and remove the rear one to take it for a test drive and see what was happening. When I got to removing the rear CV from the case, it had a very odd movement  Sure enough the joint was toast. One of the trunions had a pit in it that must have been half a millimeter deep and a quarter inch in diameter. Man, I can't believe I missed that the first time.

Anyway, thanks to all for the suggestions. It's appreciated.

Got a pic? Just wanna see what you see.

that's not bad, means you caught it the second time...

could've missed it the second, third, fourth, ... well you get the idea.

It could also be that run up I90 at 70 mph in between removals that just put it over the edge enough to make it really noticeable. But still, with the vibe that was already there I should have trusted my instincts and spent more time looking at the u-joints in the shaft.

Oh well, like I said, I'm getting lazy. There was a time I used to love to work on the rig but anymore I just wanna get in and go play. Screw this upkeep and maintenance BS :redneck:
