Cold Weather warm up

you said it yourself, "A couple revolutions". You proved my point, come over to my place and fire up my truck with no grid heaters when it's 35* outside.. Doesn't even take a couple revolutions.
 
What year? My '06 has never had a high idle... :eeek:

I don't know what year it starts at, but all modern dodges come from the factory with a high idle feature built into the computer, it's just disabled by default. All you have to do is have a dodge tech plug a computer into your truck and enable it. Once enabled you can use your cruise control buttons to turn on the high idle which will raise your RPM up to 1100, from there you can raise it as high as 1500 RPM.
 
What was the last year when your truck ran and it was 35 degrees outside?:haha: :flipoff:

Last winter was the only one it didn't run :fawkdancesmiley: . It's been upper 30's around here in the morning already.. Fire up the truck at 5:30 every morning.

yeup that sounds about right... :haha:

Notice him having to turn the key off and turn it back on each time trying to get the glow plugs to cycle :haha:
 
Ahh that video brings back bad memories of my work truck when I was doing wireless and cable installs. It was a '99 super duty, and if you didn't plug the thing in, you'd have to fight with it in the morning to get it to start... even if the temps were above freezing (think late september through march).

My boss refused to admit there MIGHT be a problem with the glow plugs or the relay, and then whenever he would drive it he would neglect to plug it in, and leave me to get it going in the morning.

Some times when it was really cold I just had to plug it in, call my first appointment and tell 'em I'd be late, and sit on my ass for an hour or so because it simply would not fire and I was getting close to running the batteries dead.

You got rid of the grid heater in the intake? Did you make a spacer/adapter to replace it?

they sell them. I've heard from pretty much everyone that they don't give you any real benefit by removing it (performance or EGT wise). I just wanted to get rid of the ugly wires going to it trying to "clean up" the engine bay a little.

Fixed it for ya.

91.5 CUMMINS would start right up without cycling the grid heater at all at 30* with 245k.
98 CUMMINS starts right up also
97 CUMMINS always started without grid heaters fine
94 CUMMINS Started fine at 0*
95.5 Powerstroke Would not start last time I tried 45*
98 Ford Starts fine at 30* (its a Cummins)

I have never had one cummins that wouldn't start in any cold weather (even the midwest). Sometimes I had to give it a touch of throttle for about 10 sec then let her idle.
