Cooler ideas?

After a good drop in with the buggy and the coleman breeze cooler with a bungee across the top dumped its load on my bald ass head I was looking for a secure but easy to access cooler that would fit my rack and yeti just happened to fit the bill perfectly. It also takes abuse pretty well.

I have an AO canvas bag cooler that came from a trade show, works great for strapping in the kayak or on a rig that doesn't have a dedicated cooler space.

I actually got my 45 qt yeti and 65qt Ice Bin as gifts (I like the cheap IceBin better than the yeti, but the rear storage on the Gremlin was built to hold either the yeti and chainsaw box, or the bigger ice Bin, and I usually take the saw...)

Before I had "good" coolers, I'd mod cheap igloos and such, stainless hinges, window sash locks on the lid, tie down points so you didn't have to strap over the lid, etc.

I had dozens of modded coolers of all sizes :****:
 
My Yeti doesn't hold ice any better than anything else, but it justifies itself by not breaking. The hinges and latches on those Igloos (etc) coolers break about every other day. We have 4-5 that are missing latches or hinges and has a bungy cord across the top to hold the lid on.

The fact that I can roll my Yeti down the mountain full of drinks and the lid stay closed and it come up with only a few minor scratches and no broken latches or hinges is worth the $300-$400. I wish we had just bought a nice Yeti to begin with instead of having a bunch of broken coolers..

Just FYI you can buy a piano hinge from lowes and river latches similar to a yeti for $30-35
 
Mine DID roll down AOP Bounty Hill about 40-50 yards... Cause I let go of it, about 15 yards in to the tumbling... I needed to grab a tree!
I doubt seriously that all the Lowes bolt-ons woulda survived that tumble
 
The durability is this reason I own 2 yeti coolers and a yeti bag. Although I have had to warranty my 45qt yeti from the lid being busted in a jeep rollover. On any of them if u fan the lid all day/night it won't hold ice any longer than a cheap one.

You guys take your coolers ****in' serious......I'm still blown away by the "tech". I use a 20$ canvas bag/cooler with some of those blue freeze things in it. Zip it up, with a few gatorades/sandwich/snacks and put it between the seats.

I had no idea there were such a need for coolers to be able to withstand an M1 Abrams tank assault. Now I know. Maybe it's cuz I ride bunny trails. :)
 
lets not even debate those of us who dont drink beer...but need coolers for all our cocktail beverages....coolers that must allow you to constantly pull out said beverages and then try to shove it back in once the ice has filled the spot...and we need room for cups/straws..or lids for that matter.

Edzackery.

The only way I could keep tie downs points to stay on coolers for rough riding was to through bolt them with button heads from the inside and silicone the bolts so they didn't leak. and the hinges would rip the screws or rivets from the plastic in a real hard roll or of the cooler smashed the ground.

I'm probably just hard on ****, and my rigs suck and flip over a lot too.

When we ride Pickett we are usually on the trail for at least 2 days sometimes 3 and camp at least 5 miles from the tow rig. I also flop or roll literally every time we ride. (See above, rig sucks and I suck at driving). I quit packing sandwiches and started using tortilla wraps because my food always got smashed.

You guys are the ones spendin' 500$ on coolers cuz ya can't drive or walk down a hill....and I'm being made fun of? I'll take that as win.
