Custom Speaker boxes

Nope not really. I'd like to keep it under $1000. But in my eyes, it'd have to be pretty fancy to spend that much. But at the same time, I've never had anything built so I'm not too sure what it's going to cost. I figure the fiberglass is more likely to be waterproofed vs just a wood/carpeted box and I'm usually pretty good about getting my soft top on when it might rain, but there is always a chance I might not get it on fast enough.
So waterproofing is something I'd like too.

Also if your trying to make it less expensive you could build one from wood & use a roll on bedliner material which will make it pretty water resistant as well. Buddy of mine did one for a suburban which turned out super nice.

Carpeted box's look pretty nice but I dont think I would do it something that for something that is exposed to moisture & sunlight as the carpet may dull from being in the sun or get moldy from moisture.

Paint is a pain tons of sanding. The trick with this is you use speaker grill cloth to cover your structure and lay out a ton of resin. Then wet sand and wet sand and wet sand.

I have done cloth and vinyl covering but I will not do paint. I now several people who do the paint and it's hours of work. We did 10 10" subs in a trunk of a camry and he wanted paint. It took over a week of sanding.

yeah I want it to look nice but not scream "steal me again" I just want it to look like it belongs.
Does fiberglass come in different colors?

I know what you mean.

The resin which is the material can be pigmented for different colors but I would not go that route just because once you glass over it you will still prob have to do some sanding & possibly bondo work to achieve the nice smooth surface which will cover up that pigmented color anyways.

You would be better off doing some type of paint or possibly like roll on bedliner material.

I agree painting would prob be alot of work thats why in this type of application I would do a roll on bedliner material which will give it a rough surface anyways so that you would not have to do so much prep work.

It is so amazing to see some of the things people build from fiberglass. Since my company specializes in fiberglass spray equipment I get to see these type of things out in the fields, things from yachts, hot tubs, hovercrafts, speaker boxes, wind mill blades etc.

those prices i was just guessing for someone to do on the side not for an actual shop to do it. an actual shop will rape you for something like that.

Oh the lettering it's actually pretty easy to do. When your laying the resin you layer in the lettering then cover it with more grill cloth and it will give the relief of raised letters.

Making it look mostly stock instead of a giant speaker box is going to be less of a filth (theif) magnet.

This is the box i had about 10 years ago in my '89. Amps were in the rear right panel.

Truth is I don't know what I want yet. Which is why I'm throwing this out there. So I can get ideas. I just know I want it to look natural and not cheap.

Maybe get yourself one of those pre-made fiberglass boxes and set it on a truck vault. These guys custom build these to fit specific vehicles. I have had mine for 14 years and it still works great.

ya Mine cost $833.97 14 years ago. It has been in seven different work trucks and I use it every day, so for me it was worth it. Broke a key off in one of the locks a couple of years ago and they replaced both locks for free.

Oh it may very well be worth it. I just have a feeling I could have one built a little cheaper. Same idea though. But if not, It may be worth the cost.
