cutting a 14 bolt

I cut the lip completely off. Then ground and smoothed. 13 Bolt. no evidence at all of the bottom bolt.

I tore mine and Daniel's down to the bare housing and put it in a mill. I shaved them down to 1/8 from the ring gear. I oriented them so the shave would be parallel to the ground. It all depends on the pinion angle. His was turned up alot and shaved a ton off of it. Mine wasnt as dramatic so we didnt take s much.It was enough to slick them up and get rid of the lip/anchor.

Kelly did mine / Miles at the time , to the bottom edge of the bottom bolt hole ( saving enough to not pop threads obviously) with a porta band. It was ugly but so was Miles truck at the time they did it... I cleared it off and smoothed it out with a grinder / flap disc. Very happy with the turn out.. I think there are pics even in my chassis build thread as well.

Hit it dont babysit it ! thumb.gif

we're doing rob's this weekend, I'm going to burn out some 3/8" plates on the table that fit what we cut. want to go 1/8"ish from ring gear without a shave job. then burn a ring that fits the new bottom plates to make a cover out of. Come on down. btw, I have my best cad whore on your header flange, I havne't forgotten you thumb.gif

I need to get on that! I could not get it scaled good enough to "trace' it so I am going to have to just follow the PDF you sent me which = more of a PITA, but I should be able to knock it out pretty fast meaning this week easily over lunch breaks.

yeah, I got part of the way through the file in CAD, got sloppy, didn't pull off my base point and assumed some things, got to the last hole and I think I was off if my math was correct. I scrapped it and said **** it, let chris do it :flipoff1:

Can you buy a gasket for those? Then you could scan it in and scale it then Chris could trace it---or is it not that simple? :flipoff1:

All the dwg files were not there anymore. Just the PDF and kelli sent me that already. I will redo it and save it

I need to grind the lip off mine bad, I just don't want to wear all the material since it is still attached to the rig.

Matt you can do it fairly easily on the rig. The trick is draw you a line and take a Porta Band and take your time. You can take roughly 3/4 of a inch off like this. It makes a huge difference and with a new blade it will eat thru it like butter. I have a porta band I could let you use anytime and probably can come up with a new blade as well.

I only took about 3/4 off of mine and I cant get it to seal. It leaks like a fat girl in a chocolate factory. I know others that have shaved theirs way deeper than mine, with no leaks. :dunno:

miles's started leaking like a sieve after we lipped it (didn't get into the meat, just the lip). every time he would drag a rock real well, it owuld get his cover. even after we trimmed the cover higher so it wouldn't get hit.
do you have a $ cover david?
