Dana 35c axle questions

D35 + Yukon shafts + Welded spiders = broken carrier/ring gear/spiders/bent housing/something other than the shafts.

D35's are weak POS axles, you can't make them good by throwing money at them. The housings are weak, the ring gear and carrier are small, and the c-clip design is dumb and frustrating when you break one of the two weak axle shafts.

Having said that, it seems like you want someone to tell you to go for it... so I say... go for it if it's worth the $100 shafts to you... BUT, don't weld it... please? Just get a used lunchbox locker.... I'm sure someone here or on PNWJeep or any other Jeep site will sell you a good used lockright for the D35 for $150-$200.

I'm reading the thread below 0n yota 8 or 9...

I just want a axle that will not set me back to much scratch yet won't be breaking & if so, giving me a nightmare to fix...

sounds like - the ford 8.8 is the ticket for me, cheap & readily available.
guess i can run this until i do have a problem. upto 33 it should be fine?
what's the limit's on the exploder rear end? as far as tire size (33's) & 4.0 w/ 410's...

An 8.8 will laugh at your 33s and 4.0...

the limit for a 31 spline 8.8 in a jeep sized vehicle is 38" tires.

BTW, 4.10 gears are the most common in 1995 and later explorers. Which also have the disk's you desire. I'll stop by pick a part tomarrow and see waht they got.

Just do the 8.8. No sense wasting time and money on a D35 for a few weeks of early wheeling. It may work for some, but the bottom line is its a ticking time bomb. Do yourself a favor, and everyone else wheeling with you and just throw in an 8.8, it's a good investment in my book.

:corn: lost me there on that thread?

I even know that the d35c has limit's... so far, thats about the only rear issue i have right now. & NO locker. I'll get a ford 8.8 and someone can walk me through the install process. - - - that thread sure was retarded tough.

I'am still username; ZukPirate on Pirate!

Hold the phone!!! First off, the guy who is selling you the Yukon M35 axles forgot to tell you they are upgraded 30SPL axles. Your stock M35 is 27 spline, so your spider gears would not work with those axles anyway. If you bought the 30spl axles you would also have to buy a 30spl Detroit or ARB to make it a Super 35 kit. Get rid of it, I know money is tight but this is a pay me now or pay me later kind of a deal.

Why go with a weaker axle?

upto 33's I think even the dana 35c would be ok...

I'am trying to avoid the c-clip NIGHTMARE, and not spend a small fortune on a currie built rear end, and still ask myself why not just use a toyota rear end and weld the fawker.

look, I'am only planning on running upto 33in tires w/ a locker. and just about any of the choices are better than the stock d35c, i still don't understand why so many are agains't using a toyota rear end... ???

remember guys, I'am a webwheeler... sometimes i take the jeep out though!
:haha: :haha: :haha:

a ford seems like the easiest to find, added the right year w/ disc's brakes is a + too. but i'am looking for a value buy!

best bet would be to find someone upgrading w/ something that would bolt right in... *i got my feelers out there... looking for me. :corn:

You aint gonna find it in a RARE RARE RARE XJ D44.

$146 w/tax from pick a part for an 8.8... $30 to re work your e-brake cables if it's disk, and $12 for spring perches... cut the old shock mounts off of your D35 and reuse them....

I don't get your c-clip hangup dude... It's a non issue. You'd have to break an axle before it became one.

I did tons of research before I got one and the only stock 31 spline 8.8 axle breakage I could find was in fullsize trucks with 38" or larger tires and jeeps with 38's/ high hp V8s and heavy right feet.

You'll break a stock 8.8 carrier before you break an axle.

PS... you'd break a 44 before you broke an 8.8

They are south of tumwater by the olympia airport on old 99.

360-357-4466

prices are the cheapest anywhere - $135.00 any axle... *WOW

but they don't have any 96 or newer ford 8.8's right now!

that place is the place to watch - for the right axle?

yota's
ford 8.8's
d44's
d60's ANY AXLE - - - > $135.00
