ok I'm in the process of building my ubber 44.

Here's what i have already:
Detroit full carrier locker
4.88 gears
Alloy USA axles
Rock crusher diff guard, (actually its made by SOLID)
Install kit etc..
81 waggy dana 44 housing

Now my question is. I want this to be a 5 on 5.5 bolt pattern.

Later today I'm going to go look at a D44 out of a 79 Bronco. I have been told I need the bronco hubs to make it 5 on 5.5, but what spindles do I need???

Chevy??

Need answers ASAP. remember this is the tech section so keep your BS out please.

Also Dave at Northridge said Alloy or superior doesn't make outer axle seals for waggy 44's.... Anyone know who does or what can I use??

Joop,
You need Chevy small bearing spindles. And then you use Chevy backing plate and calipers & Ford rotors and internal locking hubs.

The easy way is to get a kit off Ebay for converting a Ford Dana 30/44 to disc breaks. Has everything you need in it already other than the wheel bearings. That is what I did when I build my HP44 for my TJ.

You don't NEED the outer seals as there are seals in the diff on a front axle. The outer seals just keep the crud out of your tubes.

theres 2 types of ford spindles. a wide five pattern and the standard dana 6 bolt pattern. you can use the wide five just chanke everything from the knuckle out. Or as Rick said use the chevy spindles with ford rotors. I happen to have a real purty set of the chevy spindles with new ford rotors and bearings on the shelf. Yours for $150.00

ok I'll give you a call. I only have today off for the next week or so. So tonigth would be perfect or later today. I'll go get my haircut to pass the time. :awesomework:

Other options to consider.

Warn industries sells all the part to go 5 on 5.5. I'm using thier stuff because it's sticks out less far than the ford hubs. Ford/Chevy/Waggie outer stub axles are much longer than the Warn hubs, so the axles stick out of the wheel much further. I like having the hub recessed further into the wheel. Plus, I've got a full 30 splined stub axle. Your 19 splined stub is both longer and thinner. In my opinion, weaker.

Another option, is to just weld up and redrill the 6 bolt hubs you've already got to a 5 bolt pattern. It's not expensive. Call Dean at Bent Metal Customs if you want, or I can drop them off tomorrow as I'm heading that way.

I don't have any of the hub stuff right now. My waggy axle I got was just the housing and outer knuckles.

I know the outer 19 splines are weaker but they are warrantied through Northridge4x4. So if they break I'll get a new one. :D

Hey Jim let me think about your offer a bit. I'm going to go take a look at this 44 right now.

Thats fine. give me a call if you want to come out. just to clarify I have the hub assem.with bearings rotors and spindles. you would still need locking hubs, chev, caliper mt and calipers. I have some full time slugs and caps if you dont want to use locking hubs.

I also have avail. knuckles out ford stuff complete to locking hubs. this is the wide 5 style spindle and is a used setup that I havent even cleaned up as yet. $150.

What about new wheels?
Thats what I did, $42/each for 6 lug black steelies.
Much cheaper than all new outers, save that money for hi steer or other cool stuff.

Shopping List:

GM/FSJ knuckles (sounds like you already have)
GM/FSJ Caliper Brackets
GM/FSJ Calipers
GM/FSJ Small Bearing Spindles (these are a touch longer than a very similar Ford spindle, make sure you get the correct ones)
GM/FSJ Stub-Shafts (sounds like you have them)
Ford F150/Bronco Hubs and Rotors, TTB stuff works as well.
What ever 19-spline locking hubs you want to use.

Bolt and go.

You can piece it together from the junk yard/pull-a-part pretty cheap, and the hub/rotors are pretty cheap new from the parts house. Sounds like Pookys got the quick hook up for a good 1/2 of it, all you would need are calipers and stands.
