Dana 60 6.17 gear strength?

wasted 4 sets of 6.17 gears.. 2 sets were cryoed.. always wasted the ring gear..now run 5.38 and only broke 1 set..

torque is what has done mine in, with a heavy foot.. but I believe the 5.38 is definately a stronger gear set. I know a few that run the 7.17 and seen a couple of those break also.

and P.S. Porter may have had his in for 3.5 years but in the last 2 has only had his rig out a couple times :;

IIRC.....I caught the "about to fail" front ring gear BEFORE I ran the water......I ran the water as a bandaid fix to the Micky Thompson tires.I haven't "wanted" water since going back to the Krawlers although I may water up for Pheonix.....not sure.

BOT.....I am gonna pull the front diff cover off this week(A ton of **** to remove to get to it) and will see the condition of the front ring gear

Rigs been down and totally stripped for the last month+ or so.......going through and fixing some issues.

So I just pulled the front diff cover to inspect the ring gear and sure enough.........cracked. Only one tooth is starting to fail with a small piece missing but there are alot of cracks radiating across the face of a bunch of teeth.If you have deep 60 gears (6.. and 7..) I would check them regularly.
